Online System Information

The PlayOnline system which was used in Final Fantasy XI won't be used anymore, but you can still transfer your friend list to Final Fantasy XIV. Because of the different online system you won't be able to port your Final Fantasy XI characters to Final Fantasy XIV, another thing that prevents the transfer is the fact that the game won't have exactly the same races.

The servers in the game will be worldwide that are cross-platform and cross-region. PC and Playstation 3 users will be able to play with each other on the same servers. If you own both versions you can sign in with a "Square Enix ID" on the PC or Playstation 3 version to pick up where you left off and continue playing.

The maximum population per server will be between 5000-6000 players. The number of playable servers is unknown at this time.

Online Pricing

SquareEnix has revealed that Final Fantasy XIV will most likely skip the monthly fees and favor 30-day subscription plans instead, since they are so popular. They are more flexible because the days are counted instead, thus removing the need to pay for unused time. The subscription fee is unknown at this time.

It has also been stated that in-game items will not be sold, meaning no cash shop. [citation needed]
