Great show as always guys!!! Let's keep up the good work!!
I'm not sure if this was covered or not in previous podcasts, but this is in regards to no EXP loss on death. I too remember how much a pain in the butt it was in FFXI to die, lose EXP and de-level when you just decked yourself out with new gear and sold your old stuff. Having to go buy some gimped gear just to get your level back was crappy. However, I think that EXP loss had an important roll on how people played the game. Picture a party going out to kill an Incredibly Tough boss. I would think the party would fight harder if they knew that losing the battle meant losing EXP. You would try to do what ever is possible to be victorious, (or at least survive) right? If there is no EXP loss, then I could foresee people taking the WOW route. I'm not too familiar with that game, but from what friends have told me, when a raid went bad and there was no hope of victory, people would just give up and let themselves die because the penalty of death was not substantial. I feel that there should be "some" type of substantial penalty related to death so it gives players something to fight for.
In regards to PvP, you guys were talking about possibly housing it in the arenas, like gladiatorial style (speculation of course). This would probably mean that they may possibly take part in Ul'Dah (which we have heard will be a type of gambling city-state, at least in lore). Wouldn't it be cool if we could take part in PvP tournaments and have people in the bleachers not only spectating but actually gambling on which team would win?
Just thought I'd throw in my two cents. I'm loving the fact that you guys will try to be giving us more shows more often. And once again, Keep up the good work!!

Great thoughts and I have mixed reviews on XP loss, and in fact agree with your points. It does make you play smarter and harder, but at the same time can cause a lot of problems.
Not that I want XIV to be WOW but you have to look at the numbers, and for a 6 year old game, WOW still pulls down the numbers, while FFXI (while doing well, didn't get close to WOW) this can't be all connected to XP loss. However, for those players who can only play for a short while on some days to get in and de-level is a slap in the face.
It happened to me once, I was really busy, found some time to play, got into the game, and died a few times till I went down a level. After that day I canceled my sub for three years.
It's a pro/con kind of thing. And the best thing that could happen is that FFXIV is a hit with both the hard core and the casual gamer, there should be a penelty, but since it's not XP I won't be complaining and will perhaps be a bit braver because of it. I'll try out new things, just to try them out, and I won't be limted or afraid to fight a large mob I just found.
I think it's freeing, but at the same time, there should be risk/reward... If I die, the downtime should be correct, but perhaps I have to fix all my gear, or do something else that I isn't the most fun. Since dying doesn't = xp down, perhaps it means gil down...
Not that any, or all of this should happen. I still have mixed feelings about this.
Sorry for rambling.
