Danny, which 5770 did you get? 150 is a pretty good price. I have an Asus 5770 on order and I cannot wait to shriek like a giddy school girl after seeing the benchmark numbers. From what I've researched, the 5770 is that sweet spot between price vs performance for the budget minded gamer.

Good show as always with good info I missed. I like that there was some attention to keeping tabs on the time.

Edit: my benchmark scores are in! 3050 for HQ and 2500 for LQ. Overall, I'm pretty darn happy. Not school girl happy but pretty satisfied nonetheless. My old card wouldn't even run the benchmark.

Mine's a Diamond. I got it from Dell, but the original price was more like $170. I had a % off coupon for my birthday that made Dell the least expensive place to buy for once.

As for me I'm going to need a whole new system... I hope that Apple comes out with a good Mac Pro so that I can drop an ATI Radion 5870 and up in. :)

I'm hoping they will release a version 2 of the benchmark which isn't quite as harsh on systems and a little more optimized.
Please rep me I don't want to be a bandit anymore.

Great show as always guys!!! Let's keep up the good work!!

I'm not sure if this was covered or not in previous podcasts, but this is in regards to no EXP loss on death. I too remember how much a pain in the butt it was in FFXI to die, lose EXP and de-level when you just decked yourself out with new gear and sold your old stuff. Having to go buy some gimped gear just to get your level back was crappy. However, I think that EXP loss had an important roll on how people played the game. Picture a party going out to kill an Incredibly Tough boss. I would think the party would fight harder if they knew that losing the battle meant losing EXP. You would try to do what ever is possible to be victorious, (or at least survive) right? If there is no EXP loss, then I could foresee people taking the WOW route. I'm not too familiar with that game, but from what friends have told me, when a raid went bad and there was no hope of victory, people would just give up and let themselves die because the penalty of death was not substantial. I feel that there should be "some" type of substantial penalty related to death so it gives players something to fight for.

In regards to PvP, you guys were talking about possibly housing it in the arenas, like gladiatorial style (speculation of course). This would probably mean that they may possibly take part in Ul'Dah (which we have heard will be a type of gambling city-state, at least in lore). Wouldn't it be cool if we could take part in PvP tournaments and have people in the bleachers not only spectating but actually gambling on which team would win?

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents. I'm loving the fact that you guys will try to be giving us more shows more often. And once again, Keep up the good work!! :th_070_goodjob:

OK so am I the only one that needs a mirror again? My first attempt to download stopped after 2.8MB and the next two times I tried I clicked the Download button and the link just times out.

Well it won't be happening before release. The new specs released reveal pretty much the same sort of minimum required as what we all figured out in the benchmark thread made a good minimum. In fact I'd go so far as to say SE looked at the results people got and modified their specs to fall in line with the performance of the benchmark.

Still if their practice is anything the same as FFXI there will be another benchmark released with the first expansion pack, which will feature the new engine optimisations that will have presumably filtered into the PC version from the PS3 version by then. But you'll be waiting a while for that obviously.

Great show guys as always. I'm very happy you're going to try to get one show in a week now. It always makes work fun listening to people talk about FFXIV since I have no one to talk about it there.

Great thoughts and I have mixed reviews on XP loss, and in fact agree with your points. It does make you play smarter and harder, but at the same time can cause a lot of problems.

Not that I want XIV to be WOW but you have to look at the numbers, and for a 6 year old game, WOW still pulls down the numbers, while FFXI (while doing well, didn't get close to WOW) this can't be all connected to XP loss. However, for those players who can only play for a short while on some days to get in and de-level is a slap in the face.

It happened to me once, I was really busy, found some time to play, got into the game, and died a few times till I went down a level. After that day I canceled my sub for three years.

It's a pro/con kind of thing. And the best thing that could happen is that FFXIV is a hit with both the hard core and the casual gamer, there should be a penelty, but since it's not XP I won't be complaining and will perhaps be a bit braver because of it. I'll try out new things, just to try them out, and I won't be limted or afraid to fight a large mob I just found.

I think it's freeing, but at the same time, there should be risk/reward... If I die, the downtime should be correct, but perhaps I have to fix all my gear, or do something else that I isn't the most fun. Since dying doesn't = xp down, perhaps it means gil down...

Not that any, or all of this should happen. I still have mixed feelings about this.

Sorry for rambling.

Another awesome podcast guys!
I love listening to the show at work, I normally listen to them twice over. My wife and I own and work at a little computer repair shop and my day can get really... really boring, so it's great hearing all the little bits of info surfacing about FFXIV, it really makes the time pass faster.

Thanks again guys!

LOL... When it comes to games I have to agree, however when it comes to the design work and cartooning I have to disagree as it is an amazing system. I also plan to get this http://www.apple.com/macpro/ :)

Not the $5k version, but the 8 core beast with the ATI Radion HD 5870 then install me some windows 7 via boot camp and really have a good time in XIV. :)
