Agreed. It depends what i am dong. In a fight it is a huge advantage to use keyboard and mouse. With macros and such, things just get done faster this way. However if i am on a walkabout or crafting, i relax with a gamepad.

Do we have any way of knowing the 360 controller will work? This is how I played FFXI as well and it is quite possibly my favorite type of controller to use; I find it very comfortable. (I played XI on the 360) Thanks. :)

Yea you can use 360 controllers on the PC. just plug it into the USB

I'm going to bet that SquareEnix will allow Gamepad support which means you can use your Xbox 360 Controller just fine.

Its very easy to get the ps3 controller to work with your comp (as long as its bluetooth compatible. If you need help, just send me a message, and i'll walk you through it.

That said, ill be using mouse and keyboard exclusively.

I hated in FFXI using my 360 pad to do everything apart from talk/set macros so i had to switch, it was very annoying. I'll stick to keyboard and mouse. If there was 360 chatpad functionality I would buy a wired 360 pad and a chatpad and see how i like it. Pad's just don't have enough buttons for mmo's :/

I'll be using either my PS3 Controller or my 360 Controller just like I did for FFXI. I have the keyboard attachment for both of them so chatting was never an issue.

I find that I like to relax on the couch or in my chair and enjoy the game. And with a wireless keyboard I will use for chat. Sometimes I like using the keyboard to move around, but others the controller. :) I guess it just depends on my mood at the time. :)

Ha! Nice Celstar I did the same, I played FFXI with my PS2 controller and USB adapter, it was wonderful! I'm definetaly going to play FFXIV with a controller aswell unless it's way more complicated than FFXI was. Keyboard for typing of course, gamepad typing.... oh hell...

For some reason I feel the urge and must to play a final fantasy title on a controller or else it just doesnt feel like a final fantasy game That's why I had to play FFXI on a controller, it felt just weird on keyboard + mouse for me

I really thought about using a gamepad but I never played an MMO with gamepad and I'm not sure if it would be too difficult to change from keyboard and mouse to gamepad. Maybe I can somehow just try it out with my PS3 controller.

Using the joystik for movement is a lot easier imo. you can also run at angles you cant with 4 way directional keys.

I'm guessing alot of the people that voted mouse/keyboard havent played FFXI...

Trust me it's the other way around for this game, keyboard is the clunky one and gamepad makes for smooth gameplay
Go grab a cheap logitech PS clone controller (make sure it's got rumble too).

I would like to try and get used to the Logitech G13 gamepad I have sitting around gathering dust, but I'm not sure if I will be able to adapt to using the thumbstick for movement. We'll see I guess.

Strafe left/right + forward/back gives you any direction a gamepad can.

Mouse and keyboard are far more effective then a controller for MMO's, just int he amount of keybinds you can have, on top of easier control. .

FFXI was my first MMO, so I also used a PSX controller via a USB cable on my PC. It worked wonderfully, and I had absolutely no issues. However, since XIV wasn't developed for Playstation first like XI was, I'm guessing it will be a bit more intuitive to use a mouse and keyboard this time around. I may give both a shot, since it's definitely more comfortable to be able to lounge back in my chair with a controller.
