Well, based on XI almost every NPC did the exact same animations as a PC. Including the only male mithra. Generally, an NPC has more animations than a PC does simply because they are more easily controlled. I really don't even see a possible excuse they have of not adding them, except possibly female roegedyn. Midlanders look almost identical to highlanders except for skin tones so I don't see an excuse for no females there. With XI they already had an example model of a male mi'qote. They are essentially the exact same model as a female without breasts.

Regardless, this is what I foresee happening if any of these become available. Two months after release they will announce race/sex changes with the addition of female midlanders, male mi'qote, and female roegadyn. For a small price of $20-$30 you can change to whatever you want!

They think they've developed a perfect cast of characters a person might want to play, with little or no redundancy. From their perspective they probably think you should be grateful that they even added male highlanders when they had already struck such a perfect balance in XI.

I also think in XI they sort of didn't want to define a male mithra,(i know there was a n npc that was really just a slightly more masculine face on a female mithra body) IN a more abstract sense(gameplay instead of lore) galka was the male counterpart to mithra.

If they are going to add male cat dudes they'd want to do it right, not just reskin a new face on the same skeleton. with the exception of the lalafell(infantile in appearance) there must be a certain degree of dimorphism in the two sexes of a race, especially in one which is more bestial.

I bet they put some time into thinking about it and kept ending up somewhere between mithra and galka, which is not what they want to do. THey don'twant to make hybrids. They want to make each playable character to have it's own space.

They want their playable cast to be like primary colors, not secondary.
If they add too many shades of the same actor it starts to get a little crowded. Races start stepping on each others toes. It'd be like a movie which stars Tom Cruise and co stars a guy who looks and acts sort of like Tom Cruise. It just isn't done.

I'm not saying I do or don't want to see male miqo'te , just that I understand why there seems to be some resistance on Square's part against including the "missing" sexes as playable characters.

Just google image search miqo'te, roegadyn, and lions(male and female).

i mean look, is it not clear enough how they present the characters?:

The space for male miqo'te is already occupied, at least partially, by roegadyn.

But every race in ffxi, and in ffxiv have their own separate animations. I don't know what the animations of the male Mithra look like, but if he copies male humes then it's easy to make his one model and paste animations on him.

However in FFXIV they are not going to just reskin male hyur and call them miqo'te. They have to make individual animations for every action a PC character has in the game, and that takes a lot of time.

Story characters usually have less animations because they're more like a monster. Just one attack animation, no emotes, etc. etc. PCs have loads of emotes, loads of weapon attack animation, crafting, fishing, gathering, walking, running, spellcasting, etc. etc. It adds up to a lot more than most story characters.

A male Miqo'te NPC would have the same animations as a PC Miqo'te, but only if PC Miqo'tes exist in the first place. If they don't then SE is just going to make the animations required for the NPCs, and nothing more. They won't tailor every piece of armor to them either, as it's unnecessary seeing as they are NPCs.

Think of Prishe from FFXI. She was a monk, so they gave her hand-to-hand animations and nothing more (for weapons anyway). She would never use a staff, so why bother making animations for that? Male Miqo'te are in the same situation, and animations will be left out that PCs will use simply because there's no need for the male Miqo'te NPC to have them.

I'm not sure how to word this differently, and I don't know if it's getting through to you, But it WILL take time to make all those animations and sets of armor. If the game does include .dat files of complete animations and armor for the missing genders then there are other reasons besides time constraints that SE didn't add them.

If these characters are available later I hope we get the option to play as them somehow. Hopefully a free ticket for race changing will come with an expansion?

I don't mean to be negative in this thread, but why do you think a male Miqo'te would need to be beastial? It's perfectly fine if they make them look like male versions of Miqo'te. All of the other races with both genders are not very different from eachother. He'd be short like her, maybe the same height as a female Hyur. That would still be taller than a female Miqo'te and wouldn't look out of place since he'd still be the second shortest male. Miqo'te look "cuter" compared to a female Hyur, so I think a male Miqo'te would look the same in that sense. Nothing like a Roegadyn.

Hmm, I thought it was mentioned somewhere that the male Mithra were actually smaller, and less physically powerful than the females. Which was partially the reason as to why they remained in the villages to teach and care for the young.

...Or did I just make that up in my head while waiting for an abstract party to invite me? Sun stroke can do that, I suppose. *Ponders*
