Im sorry but im gonna have to say that your getting ripped off, alienware is ridiculously overpriced, and anyone who gets 8 gigs of DDR3 clearly should have read what rams are before hand.
For the same price you are building this laptop, you could be getting a desktop with easily 3-4 times the graphic power. instead of getting a 260 you could get sli 285gtx or sli 295gtx.
Dear god, and 1080p on a 15 inch laptop
Im sorry, I was very straight forward, you have permission to bash on me all you like

My apologies for hijacking this thread, but where would you suggest purchasing a good gaming desktop from then? I was planning on getting an Aurora desktop from them after the FFXIV requirements become a bit more clear, but I'd love a second opinion.

Their are customize build sites like ibuypower, digital storm, and cyberpowerpc. I would take a look at digital storm if you got the money to spend on a alienware desktop... It is pretty much what Alphena said. However if you want to spend more for less you are free to do so.

I already have a new desktop I wasn't interested in buying another one. It's my laptop that crashed. My laptop is always plugged in I knew a 9 cell battery would suck the juice up. But that's what I needed for my processor.
I was considering Falcon Northwest but they were a bit pricey for me. Price is not the issue either. I knew what I was buying. I didn't want a homemade computer. I wanted a high quality computer.
Plus the lights are flashy on the keyboard alright!
I was worried about it heating up and I gave them a call and they said there is individual fans on each component.
Aside from the price because I did have like a gift certificate deal. Is it a good computer and will it be able to handle itself.

All they are good for is makeing things look flashy. The quality of a product is based on each individual part, not the brand, or if it was pre built.
Well I could go on and show you stats of the 260's power in comparison to what you could have gotten for cheaper, but you don't seem like the rational type so im gonna leave it at that

I don't know what you think I did to be rational but anyways. So is my computer going to have problems running this game or what? Money wasn't the issue. I'm pretty sure i'm getting a decent gaming computer don't you guys think money aside? Haha.
EDIT: Putting the brand name aside.

Personally I would have gone with a desktop, but that is just me. I do not think you really did anything wrong, I just think you did the least cost effective way. Your laptop should be more than fine to run the game at near full settings with your monitor size; and yes that is including your slower gfx card. Alphena, seems to always bash so do not let that discourage you. While the 8gb of memory was a slight bit of overkill for most, who knows you may need it. A laptop that beefy most likely wont be needed ever for classes either if that was your intentions, and for the first two years especially. Brands you could have gone with for laptops are OCZ or as mentioned above ibuypower, or even the dell xps series (since alien-ware is dell now). Seems like Dell priced xps a little lower for the same quality builds.

I still do not see what is wrong with this much ram. Do you even know his intentions for this laptop beyond gaming? Do you even know if he needs this for work, or his classes? Some of us outside of the 19 year old living in his parents house do actually have a need for things like this. As I said in the other thread I DO regularly use 7-8Gbs of my memory. I could say that your recommendation for a 5870 for someone who ONLY wants to play MMOs as a HUGE waste of money; just as you see the memory being a waste. It really depends on the persons needs. So please before you open your band-wagoning mouth can you at least see WHY the person did what they did before you bash?

If you want to spend $3,000 on a laptop bottle-necked by the power of a $200 video card have at it, but you can get better for a hell of a lot less if you're willing to look.

Chances are you won't find people who actually do use that RAM. Even then Alienware is still a ripoff.

Funny part is he ask us what we think~ Therefore we told he what we thought. As for the money comment, if you did not mind blowing the cash on the labtop, why even bother consider asking our opinions since your going to buy it anyway? I personally just thought you can get a lot more bang for your buck and use the rest of the money for whatever.
*Audo listed two great labtops there by the way~

I was interested in an opinion on the computer. Not how I have spent my money. But apparently this community is unable to give such an opinion.
To be very honest with you. The computer is a gift from my grandfather because he has extra money kicking around since my grandmother passed away. But since I didn't really think that was necessary to mention I didn't.
The friendliness of the this community is very encouraging by the way!

I am not spending any money on it, and my hands are tied in the matter.
Will customization be possible with an AW laptop? Plus, I already have a desktop that is fully capable for gaming. I am using this as a backup and for long hours gaming because I tend to get uncomfortable after a while sitting in a chair.

I understand that the money is coming from your grandfather. I just thought you were picking out the computer and not your grandfather. If he has already made the final decision to buy you that specific computer and none other, I apologize for wasting your time with my reply. :D
And I am sure all are different, but once that AW computer is delivered, you won't be able to upgrade much of anything in it. I don't think you'll be able to upgrade that sub-par video card after the fact.

If you are being sarcastic (forgive me for me daft) than it is YOU who needs to be more friendly.
The users on this board are taking time to give their opinion on the machine you posted. I'm sure they have better things to do than sit here and evaluate rigs/laptops all day.
Personally I think it's worthless to waste money on alienware, but apparently you don't care about our concerns with saving you money; so go ahead and buy the laptop, it's very good. We'll see you back here in 2 years when something better comes out.

I was being sarcastic. Haha. I apologize to anyone who I rubbed the wrong way. I was just getting frustrated with the answers because it seemed that you guys were more interested in telling me how to spend my money then talking about the actual quality of the computer.
But I understand now. To make it clear. It was this or a laptop from staples. I already built my desktop for gaming I am not a complete idiot.
Thanks for the replies.
Sorry about not making my question clear enough.
