no doubt the resilient FFXIers will frolic out of the woodwork enough to see XIV through a successful launch independent of GrandpaCraft's new iteration.

GrandpaCraft lol

I see there are staunch defenders of WoW here. I enjoyed the game, left it, haven't come back since but with Cataclysm I might return to give it a once over. It comes down to business though, they want to see the game released this year because it would take part of the market from WoW, give dissatisfied Aion players something new, and beat SW:TOR to the launch table (don't know if that's going to happen though).
There is a large portion of casual MMO gamers and hardcore WoW raiders that simply won't leave the game, even when Blizzard roles out Diablo 3 or their next MMO. Yet there is also a huge base of players that play WoW simply because it's a good MMO and they haven't seen anything else to move to (beyond Champions, ST:O, all the F2P stuff) and with FFXIV being a blockbuster release it might offer them a new home.

I am getting the feeling though that based on the beta possibly coming in march or april we could see a later than expected release date. Truthfully though I would prefer a polished game than a 6 month beta into rushed release.

WoW is a good game; I'm just so tired of it and its baggage :th_015_orz:

It's time for the industry to move on.

SW:TOR has been delayed until Spring '11.

Yeah I heard. I imagine thats why they would want to release earlier but if they hit Spring 11 then they're going to be up against SW:TOR too =(

lots of people played WoW for a long time, got bored, starved for something else, but there was nothing to chew on. the hardcore fans won't leave, but the mass may be willing to test something new and VERY different, in every aspect. would be logical for SE to release FFIVX before Cataclysm, before those WoW bored gamers get something new and fresh, and if SE doesn't miss the mark, those gamers will be so absorbed in this new awesome experience that they won't even consider trying Cataclysm... yep, waiting for next year would be a strategic mistake, worsened by SW delayed release
