Good gravy what a long conference. What are your main takeaways with the conference? What did you like the most? What did you like the least? Will you be buying it day one/at all?

Here's a link to IGN's coverage of the event: IGN Playstation Coverage

There is no pricing revealed yet, but Sony did say it will be released Holiday 2013.
Something I think is worth noting: It's not weird for them not to reveal pricing yet. This was an announcement. Sony wants to keep it positive, and pricing is never really a positive subject lol.

MY main takeaway from the conference is that it seems Sony is finally taking these things seriously again instead acting like it's all a big joke like they and MS have done the past few E3's. They're finally focusing on what we really care about: the games. It seems to me that Sony is really pushing the social side of gaming as the main inspiration behind the UI. They even put a button specifically for sharing on the controller lol.

Some things I liked the most:

The social aspect of the UI. I love the idea of being able to watch my friends play a game as they are playing it. The idea that your friend can take over your game if you need help with a hard part is pretty neat too(However my pride would never allow me to do that lol). I'm really interested to see if we will be able to instantly upload videos we recorded to YouTube. Granted this is just a hope though since there is no guarantee that there will be YouTube integration.

Also gotta love the Watch Dogs demo. Another PS exclusive that may eventually make me give in.

It's nice that the dual shock 4 still looks like a dual shock controller. I'm interested to see how that touch pad will be utilized.

I think I like the eventual backwards compatibility via Gaikai streaming, but I need more info.

Capcom's new IP looks interesting and very Dark Souls-like.

Things I didn't like:

Oh my goodness SE was so disappointing. They show off last year's tech demo and then say "Be excited for E3!" -_-

Would have liked to at least see what the console will look like.

It's too early for me to tell if I'll get a PS4 eventually or not. PlayStation does have some exclusives that are attracting me. Highly unlikely I will get it or the xbox day one. I am interested to see what Microsoft comes up with when they reveal the next xbox. E3 will definitely be exciting this year no doubt.

Give me your thoughts.

I personally will buy a PS4 when my PS3 dies and even then only if it is a cheap alternative to a standard Blu-ray play or I can get a fee one. I loved PSX and PS2 but the bottom line (for me personally) was that the controllers were too small and uncomfortable to use for extended periods. Add on to that the utter lack of exclusive titles that I care about and you can safely make the assumption that I currently own 0 games for my PS3, I only use it as a Blu-ray player.

That being said, I am excited for what the next gen of consoles offer, even if I am not the target audience. I sincerely hope console developers start supporting more peripherals such as mouse and keyboard for their games (especially FPS and RTS) as well as doing away with Kinect and whatever the PS equivalent was (Eye or something like that?) if it isn't included in the initial hardware it gets treated like an estranged stepchild with sub-par games aimed at very young children (Book of Spells) or are built around microtranactions (any dance game).

So I hope the next gen delivers because I am a gamer at heart but I doubt I will own them. Maybe the next Wii, whatever follows the Wii U, but only because my son will be old enough to play games by then.

When square enix came out, and then the final fantasy dude... I thought for sure it was going to be final fantasy versus news.

But then a huge troll by them lol

Exactly same here lol

As for the PS4, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one. Rumours have been 100% spot on with the PS4 so I imagine the Xbox rumours will be true too and that it will be more of an entertainment system than a gaming console.

Not interested in sacrificing extra potential for absolute crap... I'll take that extra 4GB of RAM on games instead of streaming Youtube to watch while on Facebook and browsing the net (all of which I could easily do on my phone while playing GAMES on a consoles).

Xbox could prove the rumours wrong 100% and hopefully they will (although still probably head in the PS4 direction as I've had nothing but bad experience from xbox support).

Just my 2cents :th_070_goodjob:

Watch Dogs was the only really interesting thing I saw there, so I'm not in a huge rush to go out and get one when it launches. Obviously they wanted to keep their reveal in a positive light, but they're going to have to answer the inevitable question of whether or not you'll be able to play used games on the system or not.

They've already confirmed this - they will be supporting Used Games, and there won't be an always-onine requirement like the xbox is rumoured to be (although I doubt it)

That's good to hear. I missed about 45 mins of the broadcast between getting from work to home and I didn't catch this specific info on any of the summaries. I know that they want to sell you every PlayStation game via their cloud service; there was just a lot of hubbub about that patent they filed about disallowing used games.

I'll be getting one eventually. Whether I get one right away or later down the line comes down to price.

The online stream crashed after they said PS4 so I just lurked the twitter posts. Watch Dogs has my attention though~!

Biggest deal about the PS4, by far, is the x86 based architecture. So much easier to develop for, and that bleeds into all other aspects of the system.

I'm getting the feeling that EVERY main stream console from the big three is going to under perform this coming generation. They just don't offer anything new that we don't already have via other services. I could see someone buying a PS4 for reasons other than gaming, but as a gaming unit? The companies making these things can't even keep up with the PC as far as hardware is going, most of the games that used to be exclusive to consoles are now made for multiple platforms, and the only thing gaming systems seem to have now over general purpose computers are motion sensors...

What is with all the motion sensors?
