Yet another DevBlog, filled to the brim with the various antics of the minds behind A Realm Reborn.

Quote

Hello everyone!

Fernehalwes taking a break from putting the final touches on the Beta Version localization to bring you a sneak peek at an atypical Saturday here at Square-Enix headquarters.

Yesterday, Yoshi-P asked several members from the development team to come in on the weekend to help create a video that would be shown on his coming worldwide trip. Here’s a shot of our multi-talented producer in the control seat displaying his 1337 skillz (he made me write that…okay, maybe he didn't make me write that). I know it’s kind of hard to tell what is being filmed, but if you take a closer gander at the left-hand side of the pic, you’ll find something that may be of interest…

And, to thank us for coming in on our day off, Yoshi-P dusted the cobwebs off the old wallet, and sprung for...wait for it...pizza! Which, knowing how much Japanese pizza costs, probably ran him about a half-month’s salary (okay, okay, that was another slight exaggeration…it was probably closer to three-weeks’ salary).

Posted Image

Potato, corn, tuna, and mayonnaise. Mmm… My favorite! And by “favorite,” I mean “pass the pepperoni.”

Oh, and here’s a shot of the lovable Komoto-san finishing off his sixth pie. All that devving can really work up an appetite!

Talk to you all again soon...from the other side of the world!

:th_036_omg: how did I not pick up on that?! haha

Also, does anyone know what the yellow thing is? Looks like a post-it but there is nothing written on it unless it's editted out? Also what is in silver written below "Playstation 3"? The UK versions don't say anything else extra so maybe some others do? Or is that some kind of Dev kit PS3??
(Yes, I picked up on the latter 2 BEFORE realizing "oh damn, working PS3 FFXIV!" lol)

Tidbits from elsewhere:
Apparently the PS3 unit says "TEST" for a dev unit. Looks like a cutscene (no UI).
Pizza is like $35 each in Japan. So that's... over $500 in pizza. Yum! $
Next Letter from Producer will come during the trip (around mid-week?).
Also, plans to release some big news soon, not just little tidbits like so far.

Edit: I'm guessing the yellow thing is a post-it note with something written in pencil. "Latest" or something meaning "give Yoshi-P this one". :-)

Bah don't do this again man.

Nobody said he WAS holding it... the dev blog asked for thoughts on it and some suggested it might be. They suggested it after we all said the ps3 via the status section.

Idk why things always end up being a competition on words. Don't take what people suggest as 100% literal. Especially not when the dev blog asks about possible options.

The nice part is that it looks to be running on an actual ps3 and not just a broken up dev kit. Slightly confused as to why it's not stretching to fill the screen like was mentioned in the past Gamewatch articles but I'll take what I can get for now.

And holy cow... Japanese and their mayonnaise...

Thanks for posting this, pretty interesting to read (the cost of pizza anyway!).
As for the post-it; yeah that makes sense actually heh :th_053_XD:

I still think the Vita cross-compatible with the PS3 and the Vita hosting a map/inven/keypad sounds like a definite way to go personally, they are doing it with the Xbox (Smartglass) and rumoured to be doing it with the new PS. I just wonder if it's possible to do it with just a software update, otherwise it would mean a whole new vita model to do it :th_062_:

Maybe they have a working model but not tweaked with the resolutions? I can imagine it's possible to create a working model without making the resolution correct. Although I have no idea when it comes to it so it's just a guess :)

Nice to see they're not treating the PS3 version like a red-headed step child.

I was reading comments on one of the past LFP articles and some people think they might implement the Vita or smartphones and think that would be a great feature to have when available.

Can't wait for news from his road trip! :th_067_:

I find it fascinating that Yoshi P has turned the PR to a more social interaction with fans. I mean, can you imagine Tanaka "tweeting" out a pic of them eating pizza? Old SE twitter feed was like an ancient tablet that the gods would sometime scribe words for the peasants to read. Gazing into Tanaka empty stone eyes scared me. Yoshi P is like that odd kid you have on facebook and you don't know why, but you like him. The contrast of approach towards fans is a shift in generation. For those who follow Japanese History. Yoshi P is ninja, Tanaka is samurai.

Look @ the Ps3 controller in the pic, makes you wonder of the last pics were indeed a VITA.

Great to see progress on the PS3! As for what he is holding in the other pic, I could even be the PS4 controller! I heard it will be similar to the Vita or WiiU controller, with a large touchscreen where the Start and Select buttons are now. Rumored PS4 announcement on 2/20!

Jackel do you have any other thing to do or you just wait for me to post and quote?
I think you act like a child all the time just cause last year we had few arguments and no matter what I write about you feel like you have the right to quote me.
Anyways if that's how it will be I feel that writing here is pointless, so have fun finding someone else to quote I give up on participating in Core.

You could be right, would be very exciting if that were the case. The ONLY reason I would lean toward it being the VITA is because the screen was on the Choco screen, maybe as some sort of hint for raising chocos. But yes it could be a PS4 controller, good idea.

I'm guessing his next Live Producer letter might show some PS3 gameplay. Apparently a lot of information is going to be released within the next week. I hope it's something mind blowing. :)
