Here is "Gridania," our second entry in the Alpha First Look video series!

This video takes us on a tour through the completely revamped Gridania. The city-state has taken on an all-new look that features everything from a refurbished aetheryte plaza to cuddly delivery moogles! We really wanted to liven up the mood of the entire metropolis, so we focused on bringing the surrounding environment to life by adding babbling brooks, lush foliage, and a dynamic populace. You'll also notice that the names of unique landmarks appear on screen as you explore.

Be sure to let us know what you think!

That moogle postman.. Awesome.
In general, it looks much more like a city now, rather than a random collection of wooden huts.

Haha the music is starting to sound like the shire music from LOTR. XD

EDIT: after watching 3:30 and beyond, I know for a FACT that they took direct inspiration from LOTR OST. O_o love it.

It looks pretty. Though I hope it only looks that fall coloured during the fall. I'll miss the green Gridania if they have it like that all year round.

Also, I miss the old Gridania music. This "Shire Gridania" music is nice, Gridania has always seemed a bit like the Shire from Lord of the Rings. But Gridania has always been a mysterious place, and I like the original, mysterious sounding Gridania music a bit better even. This new music is nice, but it just doesn't quite capture Gridania like the old music did. I hope they keep both music in because there's no reason to let the old, gorgeous Uematsu soundtrack to go to waste.

Heck, the old Final Fantasy XIV music is so great I'd like to buy a soundtrack for it. If there's anything you can fault the old Final Fantasy XIV for, it isn't the soundtrack.

I love the new music. The previous soundtrack did nothing for me and was very forgettable. Did they get a new music director for the 2.0 project? I honestly cannot remember who stayed and who went lol

I like the music. It really caught my attention and reminded me of old school rpgs for some reason. The water looked very impressive to me.

Funny that they put this up today, right after a JP from the alpha test leaked a similar video out from his gameplay(it was set in Gridania). Someone split it up, and posted it on Youtube, but it is long gone now. I guess they figured, since it was already leaked(and people liked it, judging by the reaction on other XIV fourms), they'd release an official video.

Looks nice. I wish they'd shown the overview of the whole map. I couldn't really get a feel for where they were going. Also, I'm guessing that they didn't have the graphics turned all the way up, and possibly their recording software kept causing a little bit of lag. Love the new soundtrack. It definitely fits the HD look of XIV, having an HD soundtrack that sounds beautiful to go with it. Looking forward to hearing the new Limsa Lominsa soundtrack, as well as it's surrounding areas. I always loved those places. Crossing fingers that the soundtrack for the Crystal Tower, as well as other end-game areas, will sound as good as Tu'lia/Al'Tieu/Li'Telor soundtracks in XI(All zones that fell in those regions).

I logged in for a moment last night, found myself surrounded by soldiers and machina, teleported to my old hometown of Gridania and just ran around for a while. It felt nice to be in game again, though I didn't know what I was doing at all :th_038_jolin:

Seeing the new, full trailer for ARR made me realize how far the game has come and where it's going. It's truly incredible to see a realm literally reborn in front of us. Brought tears to my eyes, it was so inspiring. Can't wait to see what it'll be like to wake up in this new world!

Lastly, seeing Gridania in its new form is just icing on the cake for me. It's beautiful, it feels alive, the music is actually very good. I disliked the old Black Shroud and Gridania music, it's like there wasn't any music at all to me. Nothing very memorable about it, and that's unfortunate since it was my hometown and I spent most of my time in there. Yet, seeing this, I can forget all of that, all of the disappointments of the past. I'm ready for the new, and I'm excited to see more footage and receive more info as time goes on. :th_100_: :th_100_:
