Hello! Producer/Director Yoshida here.

I want to apologize for not making an appearance on the forums or releasing a letter. While the letter is not quite finished yet, I wanted to go ahead and let you all know about the status of the patch since the forum is a bit faster medium.

Debugging of patch 1.21 has progressed considerably and we are in the final phases of adjusting the content and systems.

I really wanted to have the specs changed for magic casting and we have been making adjustments up to the last minute, and while the system is not exactly uniform internally with the 2.0 client, we did our best to make the behavior just about the same. Medicines/food adjustments are complete and now we are at the stage where we eliminate all the bugs and wait for release.

The adjustments for the 2 instanced raids have just reached the best parts and the battle QA team has been shouting cheers (cries?) everyday.

I have been checking the overall balance and making necessary adjustments to the job quests since last weekend. The job quests seem to be giving us the most trouble and I have my hands all tied up to make sure it’s ready for the public.

Speaking of 1.21, unfortunately, the release date is looking like somewhere between the 6th~9th of March due to the tall order of adjustments requested by yours truly. I deeply apologize for repeatedly pushing back the release date of the patch, but please bear with us just a while longer.

I don’t think it’s fair for the community if I cut the comment off here so let me take advantage of the dev booth (since I seem to be the only one left here) by taking some screen shots of the job quests and posting them here…

Another f'ing delay. OK. Beta testing Tera, playing on release, playing The Secret world, then waiting for 2.0 + .1 .2 .3 .4 .5 patches, then I may check out this game. If you wanted to retain players, meet your deadlines. I know everyone will flame this with, get it right don't rush, and I agree get it right. but seriously... There's something to be said about making us wait, stretching out updates and squeezing one more subscription cycle. I'm done. Game over.

I don't flame with what you are saying cause it's very true and I'm in same situation myself.

If SE continues like this I'm having much more fun playing other games even though I'm still subbing FFXIV, I'm out to continue play tera for the weekend.

Still no Warrior images. You're breaking my heart, Yoshi.

To the two above posters, nobody can really flame because it's true. Doesn't really bother me either way since I had intended to stay until 2.0 regardless, but for those who were around solely for the addition of jobs then it's understandable. This is probably the last game mechanic changing patch we'll get until 2.0.

Call it what you will... say I'm ungrateful for the things we are getting but a few things killed me here:

Timing of the patch:
Yes, I agree with the above flame/rant saying that it's a bit ridiculous to come into the picture offering content that meets the right deadlines, and gets things done right... however, the problem with FFXIV in the beginning was releasing unpolished/broken content, so I am still pleased if they take the extra time to get it done... HOWEVER, with that being said, I (like most of us at this point) am in FFXIV at this point only for 2.0 tbh, so if this ends up pushing back when 2.0 should be released, I will be a little disappointed.

I do however remember at one time them saying that any postponed content will not have any effect on the scheduled time of the 2.0 release so I can breathe easier.

Job Armor:
I don't know if it's just me but my own little personal gripe is just with Dragoon JSE... looks too DRK doesn't anyone else agree? I miss the purple tint of cool DRG armor.

...Oh well, I guess that means DRK JSE (if/when DRK would be released) will end up looking even more... DRK... hurray? yeah... hurray!

I just really wish that FFXIV can stay afloat with all of this new content, and keep people's interest for the time-being who are the real dedicated FFXIV (1.0) players, so that by the time 2.0 rolls around, theres a good basic playerbase of dedicated players, and then also a bunch of new players introduced that help just provide some padding to the server population at least, until they are good enough to really contribute to the level everyone else will be at.

(I appologize for any subpar sentences/unclear points... I'm a bit overtired today)

I agree DRG AF looks like DRK but that makes it even more badass if you asked me. I wasn't a fan of DRG in FFXI but this time around I think DRG will be my main job unless they release SAM which is why I even played FFXI in the 1st place.

I wish they make more badass gear I'm sick of those moogle weapons or in general there are too many cute gear and feels like we will kill mobs with sugar or something.

We are fighting baddies in this game supposly not playing pokemon.

I have stopped paying, because playing/paying right now is pointless. Do you think you're going to have an advantage over people who start on day of release of 2.0? No, they are going to put your ass on such a curve that people won't be reluctant to join. I know it sounds dumb, but SE will have to entice new players to come and play.

Don't give me the live story, nothing but ridiculous plot, pointless quest, and endless confusing stories. Right now I'm on a mission type quest where I'm working for "the spirit of the royal flame of the faction of the brotherhood of the tenth guardians of some world I can't spell."

But maybe it's just me, but the fact that this post only have a few hundred views tells me all I need to know about the current status of this game.

Ok I just noticed a trend in this topic and wanted to see if what I have read is correct. From what I understand there are 2 teams working on FFXIV right now. A team working on updates to the game as it stands right now and a team working exclusively on 2.0. I swear I read that somewhere so if that is true there is no way that the updates to this version of the game could change the release of 2.0.

I do want to point out that I am very excited about this patch regardless of whether or not I have to wait 2 more weeks. I have been playing this since beta so big whoop if I have to wait 2 weeks, I have been waiting over a year for them to fix this game and IMO it is almost there besides the lag and engine. How cool is it that they are giving us jobs?! In FFXI you had to purchase a expansion to get more classes/jobs. Hopefully they will bring in more with 2.0 like thief or ninja.

I know a lot of us are jaded and resentful of how S/E has treated us but lets try to stay positive and excited about where this game is going to go with Yoshi taking over and actually trying to fix the pile of crap that was the game at launch.

Look at everything they have done. We wanted a Auction house, I know we didn't get one but we can now buy items right from the search list and it gives recent price and everything. We wanted less laggy UI, we got less laggy UI, not no lag but still they are trying and they realized the system was flawed so they said scrap it and make 2.0. We wanted airships and Chocobos, we not only got them but we got our very own personal chocobo we can call whenever without a cool down and gobue mounts if your into that sort of thing. The list goes on and on but you don't see the smaller details they fixed unless you step back and see where we used to be.

Recently started playing a bit again, after a long period of just not being able to play due to work, single player games and various other reasons.. I've been constantly following progress of FFXIV though.

It might not look like much to us, but for Mr. Yoichi Wada to come out and publicly apologize for FFXIV and say it was a failure isn't something he'd do lightly, and it's definitely not something he would do unless he's serious about fixing things. In Japanese culture, publicly apologizing is basically the same as personally taking all the blame on yourself, even for something you might have had little or no hand in.

The things they're planning for 2.0, and the patches in between is mind boggling. They're practically recreating the game from scratch and only have a year or so to do it in. On top of that, they're adding a ton of new stuff rather than just porting/adjusting current content. The only other game I can think of that regularly has such huge and regular patches is Rift, but that team isn't working on a complete rewrite of the game in the background :)

That's not to say delays aren't annoying, and I would love to see the jobs system, as well as the personal house thing so I can review all the cutscenes and actually have a clue what the main story is all about (been so long, I can't remember much of it ;)) However, I do prefer them to delay a patch rather than release un unfinished/untested one. They can't please everyone though, so if it's delayed there'll be people complaining that it's delayed, and if it's on time but with a bug, people will complain that they should have delayed it :)

I'm definitely not playing/paying to 'have an advantage over people who start on day of release of 2.0', because why would you want an advantage over someone who's just starting? If anything, the advantage for me is that by then I know more of the game's system, and can help the new players getting to grips with the game. For me it's not about being better than others.

Some of the quests are weird, but so far I quite like the Gridania main story. I like when they're slightly confusing rather than spoon feed you every single little detail. Probably also why I've started disliking Hollywood movies more and more. The only problem I find, is that the main story quests are quite far apart, and if you have limited playtime you tend to forget things. However, being able to replay cutscenes in 1.21 should alleviate that problem.

I'm glad Yoshi-p posted this, I was getting crabby not having any news on the release date lately. I still wish they would post a couple of info articles on the Lodestone every week. Some weeks there is a drought of information...

I’m really looking forward to getting to be White Mage so I can give out the healing goodness. I am also looking forward to questing my artifact armor pieces and really, really hoping that the quests are fun and challenging. Actually looking like a WHM will be cool.

However if the patch hits on Thursday the 8th and everyone has unlocked their jobs and have full AF by the weekend I shall probably be very upset…

This looks like a pretty solid patch and I can't wait to get it!
