One of the things we*ve done so far is make sure that more character customization options will be going in the relaunch version.

Joy! Maybe this means we'll be able to recreate our FFXI characters finally. I was really disappointed when I couldn't recreate my FFXI Mithra with the current customization options.

TBH, I don't like the way FFXIV is being morphed into FFXI-2.

In defense of people like you, rest assured I will be equally outraged if they remove any of the customizations currently available in 2.0. I hope you will be able to keep your character exactly as it is now after 2.0 if that is what you should choose.

But this isn't about that. This is about the current customization options being terrible, especially when taken in consideration with the other MMOs on the market. I'm just glad they're adding more options (and you should be too), but a nice bonus from my perspective would admittedly be finally being able to recreate our XI characters like we were told we would be able to from the start.

No.

It was reaffirmed at the end of the letter that, in addition to everything else, more character customization options are confirmed for 2.0. I expressed that I was happy about this. Another poster then expressed concern about XIV becoming XI-2. I then went on to say I'm happy anyway because I think the current customization options are bad. The end.

This thread is only 7 posts long. You could have figured it all out by reading it.

(The addition of the On/Off toggle for sub-targeting is another addition I’m looking forward to, being a mouse-and-keyboard man myself.)

Meeeeee too! Finally, does this mean I won't have to keep hitting the enter key to confirm whenever I want to cast a spell?!? I want to just hit the spell on my action bar and have it go off like in other MMOs. As a kb/mouse user, I'm very excited about this change!!! *Happy dance* :D

Other things I felt were big news (aside from the obvious jobs hubbub):

  • Two new instanced raids (hoping they won't be the same timed model as DD and Toto-Rak)
  • Inns to include player housing, rested exp, and a place to replay cutscenes
  • Moving will interrupt spell casting
  • Hamlet defense delayed due to increase in scale (big content, huh, now I'm a bit intrigued)
  • Class action adjustments (glad to see they're still making changes to the battle system for the classes, the 1.20 revamp still needs a lot of work, IMO)
  • New achievements
  • Intra-city travel (yay, warp tarus!)

I also wanted to mention that in addition to the 1.21 environment, we’re also running 2.0 clients on the shop floor now. One of the things we’ve done so far is make sure that more character customization options will be going in the relaunch version. We’ll be releasing more info in the future, so keep an eye out for that as well!

Also exciting. Good to know they're now actively testing a working client. I know Yoshi-P keeps saying that patch delays (such as 1.21 being pushed back to the end of February) won't delay the release of 2.0. I hope not. Or, rather, I should say, I hope they won't yet again release a game that is not ready.

Anyway, additional character customization options in 2.0 is definitely a good thing, considering what other games offer. I had envisioned Duskwights getting a whole array of tattoos to choose from, both Elezen clans having lots of earrings, and many more hairstyle options for everyone.

XIV takes place in Hydaelyn, not Vana'diel and will never take place in Vana'diel -- the necessary element needed to turn XIV into FFXI-2.

In the light of the 2.0 tidbit, it means they're pretty much on schedule if not ahead actually so while they won't release it early, it does mean they're progressing at a solid pace given the timeline.

A good info packed letter! While sad that hamlet defense is postponed I hope it is because they thought of more cool stuff they wanted to add to it to make it fun. Also, 2 week delay is disappointing but not really surprising.

I am very excited for 1.21 :D
