FINAL FANTASY XIV fans the world round, the seventh Letter from the Producer has arrived for your viewing pleasure!

Quote

Well, the game servers are now back online, and the development is almost returned to full strength, but the effects of the recent Tohoku earthquake and tsunami are far-reaching and profound. Much as those in the areas directly affected by the tragedy, we here in Tokyo must also remain vigilant. We’re continuing with our energy conservation efforts here at the office, and the while hoping that FFXIV might serve to bring smiles to some faces out there.

That being said, I’d like report on recent dev team activity. We were just about to begin testing on the now released patch 1.16a when the earthquake struck, and for that reason delayed its release. In addition, patch 1.17 was initially pushed back to mid-April, but after reexamination we’ve decided instead to divide the content and release it across two patches—1.17 and 1.17a.

Patch 1.17 contains an upcoming seasonal event slated for April. If we keep all of the other initially planned content, however, we wouldn’t be able to have the patch ready in time to coincide with Eas—errr, said seasonal event in the real world. So we’ve reduced the volume of patch 1.17 down to about 70% of its original size, and pushed the remaining 30% over to 1.17a. This way, all of the content can be released with minimal delay in between, and it will also allow us to get this holiday event released in time (don’t worry, there are no bells in this one).

Even so, this still won’t make up for all of the time lost from our original schedule. As a result, unfortunately, we’re going to have to forgo the event planned for a national Japanese holiday in early May. Since the April seasonal event kicks off later than intended, it will continue even after April 24th in the real world—whatever that day may be. I realize this is all less than ideal, but hope you understand and bear with us.

One last thing. A portion of the changes in patches 1.17 and 1.17a are preparations for the mid- and high-rank PvE content planned for later release. As soon as we hammer out the basics of the new dungeon and raid environments, we’ll be throwing out some screenshots and introducing them to you.

Best keep it short to give the translators more time on the quests, so that’s all for this letter. Talk to you again soon!

With the pace of things, I'm okay with it too. It's all the more better that they keep us informed of their intentions as well. ^^

Loved the "no bells" comment. Yoshi has 'my' kind of humour.

Fixing the game is indeed worthy of a yay.

More good news. I have to say, I'm impressed with the frequency of updates, even when there's not a whole lot to say. Hopefully everything smooths out their way sooner than later.

The english text is missing some parts or the german text has some parts too much. There are quests in 1.17

Quote

1.17 wird trotzdem vollgestopft mit Aufträgen sein und hat noch immer 70% der ursprünglich geplanten Größe.

I am happy about this, and the delays he speaks of are very understandable seeing that it's not their fault the delays happened in the first place and they couldn't have seen that coming. I'm interested in seeing how this 'easter-ish' event will play out seeing there are no bells this time, heehee. Also I can't wait to see the screenshot he mentioned about the dungeons and raid environments!

Wonder if the holiday event they had planned for May has anything to do with Children's Day... thats really the only holiday that I can think of they could make a event out of. I know that like April 29th to May 5th is Golden Week which is a huge vacation week for them. Constitution Day and Greenery Day is during that time... shame they are pulling out an event, would have been fun to see what they had planned but it's fine. :th_070_goodjob:

Anyway enough of my babbling, I love how much he keeps in contact with us and I can't wait to see what happens in 17 and 17.a! Good jobs Yoshi-P and team!

Nice, I'm interested in seeing the April event. I joined just after the February one, so I missed it. I read a lot about it though, so I found the "no bells this time" comment pretty funny too. And more content coming as well. All good stuff.

I know reading can some times be difficult, he said they were releasing content broken up into two patches, he has mentioned the seasonal event, also in previous letters they mentioned public companies for the next patch, so I am assuming we will get both the event and companies. Also they are releasing the ground work for dungeons and raids, not sure how anyone could be put off from this letter but then again nothing really surprises me anymore from some of the community.

Simply because they said this patch is only 30% of the total patch.

I'm not seeing companies in the next patch in anything he's said. He did say we'll be getting info on companies before 1.17 though.

We were talking about this the other day actually in another thread. Yoshi only said they would be releasing info on companies right before 1.17 dropped, but never stated if it would officially be IN the 1.17 patch. So yes, reading ambiguous writing can be a little tough sometimes. I am certainly HOPING that 1.17 has companies, but to be honest, you need players to run companies, and there just aren't that many back on the game yet because there is nothing to do. Kind of hoping they add dungeons first and other content that entices players to come back and THEN add a company system that requires a larger player base to operate succefully. But this is why they get paid the big bucks so I am sure they know what they are doing. Either way, heres hoping there are a ton of goodies in both 1.17 patches.

im assuming ppl assume that cause once they see Holiday event most let out a big sigh and focus on that most likely thinking why do events when they could have used that time for of planning on working out other things.
