Okay, seriously I don't usually ever feel the need to register on a forum to vent out how I feel over a video game.
But I guess for FFXIV I'll make an exception. I just got the game like a week ago, and here is how my experience is so far...
I log in, have no idea what to do because there is no tutorials whatsoever. It's not like I'm asking for an easy-mode game, I would just like to know the basics. Instead I have to play in windowed mode, with my browser open on eorzeapedia and lodestone 24/7. Where is the fun in that?
Once I finally figured out how to play the game for the most part, I am sent to do my first leve. At first I'm like "A quest, **** yeah it's about time" then I'm like... Where is this place? So, I have to once again alt + tab to my browser and figure it out. Once I figured out where it was, it was just a matter of running around for like 5 minutes in the most repetitive copy and pasted area outside of Ul'dah known as Thanalan. So that was a great time sink, anyway I figure it would be well worth the journey.
Questing hubs are always pretty cool right? Little outposts with interesting buildings, npcs, etc. Well... I get there, and the quest hub is basically a stupid crystal with a fence around it. I spend a couple hours doing leves and grinding outside the 'crystal-with-a-fence' till I hit level 10.
Long story short, I go back to Ul'dah pick up quests for Camp Drybone. At the time I was pretty excited because I figured okay maybe the first quest hub was lame because it was made for noobs. I'm level 10, and this should be my second quest hub so it will probably be pretty cool since it is called Camp Drybone. Maybe the camp is built upon some giant mammoth/dinosaur skeleton? I sprint to Camp Drybone which takes me like 10 minutes, and when I finally get there...
It's another crystal with a fence around it... At this point I'm seriously like wondering what the **** is going on... This must be a joke, this gigantic map I pull up consists of copy and pasted barren wasteland, with camps that are simply crystals with fences around them.
So let me get this straight, the only actual civilized places in this game are the cities? Where do the cities get all their **** from? Aren't there suppose to be farms somewhere? Tons of mining and lumber outposts? So basically the entire game consists of copy and pasted terrain with copy and pasted camps... Great! I have so much motivation to continue leveling....
To make these camps even better, nobody talks in them. People seem to only talk in their LS and so I applied to a LS and got accepted a couple days ago and realized well the social aspect improves a little bit because my LS has some pretty cool people. The affect kind of wears off after a while though because even though I got friends to play the game with now all we do is go to these camps and link leves or you can go kill a NM (over-sized mob that wanders around like a retard with no purpose). The best gear in the game is crafted, so all that cool **** that drops off a NM is kind of pointless...
The market wards where you sell stuff, retarded. You summon a retainer like an npc of your own and it just stands there like a zombie. These entire wards are basically gigantic halls with a bunch of zombies. Seriously people wanted markets in the game to be immersed, to feel like they are truly in a market but these retainers just stand there in the middle of the hallway. Might as well have an auction house, because I don't see how this whole retainer idea is so amazing. Get this, the market wards crash all the time so if you leave a retainer in there with items to sell overnight and the wards crash your retainer isn't re-summoned. So you wake up in the morning and nothing has sold because your retaining is no longer even there... Wow, that is so much better than an Auction House right? Not really... WoW isn't the only MMO with an AH, FFXI had one that worked. Oh and if you say Auction Houses cause RMT well google FFXIV GIL you will find tons of websites selling gil starting at like 500 K for $3. How is this possible if there is no auction house? Because RMT is not directly correlated with the Auction House. Anti-AH people get over yourselves because the RMT sites that are up are just spitting in your retainer's face.
The game has no endgame right now, no mounts, and all the classes are basically the same. I played both the casting classes and leveled them up around the same time. I found like no difference at all between them, because I could just use all my spells on either class mixing and matching. So why even have classes to choose from at the character creation screen? Every spell and skill animation in this game looks like ****, because SE dumbed down animations so that a archer could easily use a puglist skill even though it makes like no sense. I used a archer skill on my puglist and the tooltip said a ranged attack, even though I was literally in the monster's face and I punched it... Makes no sense at all, the animation is basically the same as well besides the fact that I punch instead of shoot an arrow the skill itself looks exactly the same. Most skills and spells in this game are basically just colored lights and make your hand look pretty by glowing. That's about it, very boring and repetitive. Every single class is basically just a clone, it is lame and boring.
99% of the people in this game play a cat chick, which is a little disturbing since like 99% of those cat chicks are dudes. I understand that dudes play girls in MMOs but the ratio is just a little freaky. A lot of people have a furry fetish or something? Doesn't really matter what race you pick I guess since they all attack and cast basically and exactly the same way.
Crafting I think is the only cool thing in this game, the animations for every crafting class is different and they all actually do something different. Also crafting is interactive, which is entertaining for the most part.
So yeah, seriously what the hell? Is this even a video game? Everyone in the game right now is just grinding for no reason, because there is no dungeon or boss to take down... So people are getting the best gear and leveling up for nothing.. I asked several 50s what they do with their 50s and they often say level up more classes (including crafting) kill a NM or just farm and make gil.. Gil? For what? Looking at the big picture, there is no reason to strive for gil or gear. Gil means nothing it is so dirt cheap that RMTers consider 500K worth the price of a glue stick I can buy at Walmart. Repairing is retarded, an item isn't 100% repaired you can't sell it on retainer. Pretty stupid and annoying that you have to repair so much every week, but you have to literally repair it by finding a crafter or spending tons of gil at an NPC.
