Just got this email today from FilePlanet announcing the closed beta for Star Trek Online.

Anyone gonna give this game a shot?

1. Star Trek franchise isn't my thing (I might like the latest movie tho).

2. Graphics do not look appealing at all.

3. Fantasy > Sci-fi.

yeah I'm not too into it either. I'm more interested to see how SW: TOR turns out on that front.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, and despite loving Star Trek, but I won't be playing it either. I don't think it captures Star Trek very well at all personally.

Might try the Beta (open starts soonish i think). I love Sci Fi mmos but very few catch my attention, i'de really like one to have me captivated for more than a week.

If it's a cross between the old wing commander and the old elite games it'll get my attention for a while :-)

Voted Meh as well. On paper and if you read their website it sounds sort of cool, but I'm not a Cryptic fan by any means. I will check out the open beta on Monday for giggles but I think that's as far as that is going to go.

Doing beta for this and others if I don't get into ffxiv beta. I'm assuming that these EQ2 level graphics will only serve to increase my appetite for ffxiv and I want to laugh at RP Trekkies...

I'll totally be passing on this game. Never was that big of a Trekkie myself. The Next Generation was the only Star Trek I could get into.

"Tasha Yar...Naked!? That's gotta be against the prime directive!" (+1 to anyone who catches the reference XD)

It doesn't seem like the game has much going for it that I can see, but hopefully it'll do better than SWG did.

In any case, it's from a tv show, but not that one. I guess the author of the story thought that line was funny also

Voted#4, because I find myself stupified. Seriously? What the ****? "Option #4!" is the closest to describing my conglomerate of feelings on the matter. Fury, sadness, distress, mortification, anguish, indifference, remorse, disappointment, etc.

Firstly, I hate Star Trek with a passion. That was the lamest excuse for a franchise I've ever come across. To make matters worse, it always comes up in conversation at some point, due to its ridiculous popularity amongst the nerdy type of individual. (not that that is a bad thing, I'm a nerdy type myself, at times)

But for ****'s sake. Everyone puts all the nerdy types in one boat. Whether you watch anime, never leave your home, play video games, movie-freak, or whatever your poison is...everyone assumes you are a Star Trek fan. **** Star Trek.

Even my best friend, who knows how much I hate Star Trek, asks me if I like Star Trek just to piss me off. He does this because he is aware of the nerd-Star Trek stereotype!

Star Trek is a crutch to us all, and not by choice! (But that's just a personal rant)

Secondly, that game looks ******* horrible. Who the **** is Cryptic anyways? Is that actually a gaming studio? Are they even known for making a single game that wasn't a piece of ****? Heroes/Villains/Champions were all horrendous.

But I digress. That game, itself, regardless of the studio that made it, looks pretty pathetic.

I wasn't really impressed when they first showed it. Immediately it felt like, "Here's a game 5-10 years too late that we're going to release soon!"

I'm not really into it tbh. Though a friend of mine has played the beta and says its awesome, and my fiancée will be getting it. Maybe I'll give it a try after seeing what its like from his copy. But I'm by no means a Trek fan n would be a total noob surrounded by Trekies...puts me off a bit ha.

Any company that puts out a beta based on subscription to a site like file planet is clearly lacking. I realize the benefits of having a third party provide download server support, but this is not the way to run a beta, it's just a cheap way to advertise. A beta is supposed to be about finding bugs and producing a quality product, not marketing. /rant

Seriously though, EVE Online. Thanks I'm good.

Not my cup of tea sadly.. Was never a Star Trek fan. Look like a decent game though.. best of luck to them.. it's not Triple A material though.
