So i was talking to a friend of mine who got me playing FFXI and we were talking about how i got my copy of it. I had gone to anime expo in 2007 and they had a FFXI booth they were giving out free copies of the Xbox 360 and pc version. They asked me final fantasy questions and i had answered enough questions to win a copy of FFXI. The funny part was that i didn't play it cause it was signed by the creators of the game, it was awesome :th_070_goodjob: . So i probably went like more than 9 months without even touching it. I didn't play it until my friend randomly asked me if i would play. Then me and my friend started talking about random stuff that has happened to us on the game and that was the real interesting part it was kinda funny to me how when you go back and remember something that has happened to you on an online game you remember it like you were actually there. You remember where you were, who was there, what they were wearing, and even the mood. I can remember something so clearly but then i think about it and i wasn't really there it was just a game, but if you think about it its not just a game it was something were i got on and hang out with friends who i have never seen in real life but we treated each other like best friends or even family and that was the coolest thing for me. Anybody got any moments you remember? :th_043_:

That's the wonder of the internetz. I remember when i was young i had to walk all the way 3 blocks just to hang out with my friend for a few minutes.

The internet and MMORPG are basically our second life. Treat it as another dimension, where anything you have done in the second world will not affect your first world, that is you "RL".That doesn't mean we separate both of them completely, we had fun. I understand what you mean by being treated as family/friends even if we're complete strangers. That's because i've been in this guild for more than 4 years and they're sorta like my best friends where we share our secrets and chat about anything almost regularly.

What's even better is that you do not have to run 3 blocks anymore to meet your friend. just click on that login and press that "nudge" button!

Those moments are great in MMOs, it's part of what keeps us playing. I can't tell you how many times me and my KOTD nigs were wrecking house in PVP and something funny would happen or someone would say something hilarious either in vent or ingame and the whole vent channel would erupt into laughter.

Hopefully SW:TOR will bring us all back together like that, unfortunately FFXIV proly won't be played by the brunt of us, but still that doesn't mean I can't build memories there, too.

I distinctly remember once sitting in Lufaise Meadows camping Megalobugard with a good friend of mine and just enjoying each other's company so much. It was such a peaceful camp experience cause there were often not many if any people there and the landscape was very calming with its gently rolling hills and occassional grassy cliffs... and the very cool thunderstorms that would crop up.

Sometimes while we were healing after taking down all the placeholders, we would just chat about nothing and everything. I cherish those times in FFXI cause those times where how I made such incredible friends a thousand miles away. Real or not, I wouldn't trade those moments in my memory for anything. I would see him scanning the different mobs in the area, that very slight, almost unnoticeable tick-tick-tick of the head of his character moving around as he scanned the area and he'd come to rest on me and then we'd start chatting again.

I remember all the details of those moments because they were just so cool. Being able to connect so well with someone in a completely fictional world. That is just incredible.

MMOs have truly changed interpersonal relationships. I like to believe it's for the better. ;)

Without a doubt playing games in general. kinda became like a second life for meXD I can remember event's and random crazy stuff I did in games, from super jumping out the level in halo2 to crazy events that happened in FFXI. All is magical to me, and I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. I still remember the day I played my first zombie game in halo2 and realized that custom games ******* rocked XD.

In FFXI I did so much crazy stuff, I found all 5 assault staging points as a naked lvl 30 rdm so that I could get my Blu af weapon. THAT was fun avoiding all the true sight mobs and suchXD. I even accidentally got me and my friend killed trying to get the one in the reef placeXD. 3 imps, me a naked lvl 30 rdm and a level 60 thf, he flees and runs to the zone doors and dies there from aggro, I ran down the wrong hallXD. Then my leader came out to raise us and she caught aggro after she raised me...I was so sorry but she was like don't worry about itXD

Or the time I first met Mr. Stompy in the highlands, he didn't like my little level 18 rdm...

But I have to say the funniest thing was when I was doing my first dynamis run and no one warned me about the assist macro or "auto-attack off" thing. I accidentally woke up a smn mob, all there was was Astral Flow spam...and my leader wondering wtf happened and making sure every had their macro's in order. Lol epic fail on my part lucky no one knew it was me=>_>=
Street racing isn't illegal...well it is but f*** it

well kinda reminds me on my old Ragnarok days

where the MMORPG is still a very very fresh category in Gaming society, majority of the pople were still a newb, and we helped each other out almost every single day

was so much fun, people were so active, they didnt login just to grind, but we login to chat, to find something new, to ask what the other members were doing, share stories in game even though we never met

there's even ppl whom i leveled up with together from level 1 to 99, and we still chat with each other on MSN, and would sometimes talked about the old days and laugh together

i even celebrated my birthday once with them in game, they login just to attend the virtual party i throw, i know it was crazy, but it happened, and im sure most of you guys did that once too, i refuse to go out on a Christmas eve dinner party because they have the Christmas event in the game,

so much fun, but im so sad, that the generation of today's MMO community wont be as fun and as lively like the 1st generation MMO does anymore

altough im expecting it on FFXIV

Thanks to the often scandalous nature of my friends and, I won't lie, sometimes myself, I remember any number of funny incidents from the MMO's and even just online games in general I've played.

I won't mention most of them unless one of you catch me in one of the games I play, but one of the more tame things I was a part of was making a group of blond dwarves in EQ all named some variation of "Athaf". We would just change the vowls, ie I was Athuf, there was an Athof, etc. Since we were usually on at the same time and all in a group, we liked to make sure that the zone knew we were there. To do this, we liked to shout songs, like the dig song from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

For those not familiar with the song, it went,
"We dig dig dig dig dig dig dig,
Dig the whole day through!
We dig dig dig dig dig dig dig,
It's what we like to do!

There ain't no trick,
To get rich quick,
When you're digging with a shovel or a pick!
In a mine!
In a mine!
Where a million diamonds...
SHI~NE!"

Oh the stories I could tell...
