Now I just need to think about how I'm going to get some ingredients, which brings me to this question. Would mining be most beneficial to supplement the crafting route I'm taking? I'm figuring the obvious answer would be "yes" as mining is associated with ore/metal and that seems to be what all of my main crafts use, but I'm just curious to hear if others agree or if there's other opinions out there, like whether botanist is beneficial for example. Anyway let's hear some opinions.

Aside from that, mining is a good way to get ore as well, but sometimes I seem to get more of the random other crap like alumen, rock salt, bones, and worms than I do actual usable ore. It sort of turned me off of mining for a while.

Your not mining the correct area of the depth bar to find the material your looking for then. From what you said, I assume your mining in the center and at the bottom.
Hint, copper ore is found in mass at the top of the depth bar.
Ive never once had to buy an ore, not to mention Im swimming in gil so I think Mining is a great compliment to Armorer. Also will be Weaving, Leatherworking and Carpentry. Blacksmithing and Gold smithing will help you break down ores yourself.

You can't as armorer, but you can as like a 15 blacksmith, which is pretty easy to get. Why do so many armorers say blacksmithing and mining are a "waste of time". They are 100% required for your class. Unless you have other people doing it all for you, it is most definitely a wise choice of classes to pick to supplement it.
Mining is most definitely a requirement for Armorsmith, unless you want to just be funding everyone else with hundreds of thousands of gil to buy your mats. Saying otherwise, is simply a false statement. You need nuggets, or else you are not making anything with armorer.

so you are going to keep your blacksmithing up to like level 40 along with your other sub crafts while mining? more efficient to just find a blacksmith friend to partner up with.

Since when were we debating efficiency? Since when did you need to be level 40 in mining and blacksmith to harvest/make iron nuggets? You can do it at 15. Since when do you need anything but Iron to get 40+ in crafting? Oh that's right, you don't.
I would suggest reading the thread before posting. "Is Mining a good job to go along with Armorer?" The answer is yes, you need ore and nuggets for an Armorer. Simply getting 15 in BLK and Miner would let you do all of this on your own. Not to mention mining is a great source of shards/crystals for crafting.

No, you only need nuggets. Armorer doesn't do jack with ore. Because Armorer doesn't do jack with ore, Miner is a horse-**** sub. Blacksmith and Goldsmith both deal with the ore and THEY make the materials Armorer uses. Miner is a good sub for those classes. So if you want to level miner you're leveling a sub for your sub, have fun with that.
Armorer already has to level Weaving, Leatherworking, Woodworking, Alchemy and Goldsmithing as subs. If you want to complicate your life even more and add Blacksmithing/Miner to your list instead of just finding one of 100000 blacksmiths that are surely on your server, you're free to do so.

There IS a useful reason to level a gathering class though...the speed boost for traveling between cities and doing deliveries.
Only problem with that is it stops working in higher rank areas if you don't keep it leveled.

Why are you leveling armor at all? Just find an armorer on your server to make your gear. I mean, it's a horse-**** job, just find one of the other 1000000 armorers on the server to do it. You have to level Weaving, Leatherworking, Woodworking, Alchemy and Goldsmithing as subs, what's the point? Lol, you do realize how idiotic your comments are, I hope.
Everyone has a goal in the game. I like to be as self sufficient as possible. Sure, I still depend on people for things, but it's nice to not have to sometimes. You can call it whatever you want, but people can play the game, how they want to play it. And saying one job isn't dependent on another, and calling it worthless and horse-****? Really now? Pretty much all crafting jobs are dependent on eachother in some way.

I was saying that Mining is in no way a sub for Armorer. It isn't. Period. Armorer in NO WAY WHATSOEVER uses ore. This is the question brought up in the thread title. "Is miner a good sub for Armorer?" No, it isn't. It is a good sub for blacksmith/goldsmith (which I said). I also in no way said Armorer sucks because you have to level multiple sub-crafts. I was saying why would you go out of your way to level 2 sub classes YOU DON'T NEED over one of the many you do. If you want to waste your time in the name of self-sufficiency go right ahead, but it is in no way NEEDED.

I like to do my own ore synths. Sure you might be max level right now, and congrats for getting there so fast, but I'll get there, faster than most, and also have Mining and Smithing, not to mention all the other actual subjobs for Armory.
I like to group up in this game for grinding and PvE, but if I can, I would much rather keep all my crafting skills to myself, rather than have someone else skillup for me.
To each his own. My answer would be that yes, if you want to be totally self sufficient, Blacksmith and Mining are critical.

Fun Fact: Actually, you can, because you are only 22 glad. I realize you power leveled to the top, good for you. You are in the top 1% of people in the game, and are definitely NOT the majority of players.
The question was not is it needed, it was "Is Mining a good job to go along with Armorer", for a more casual player, or basically anyone not focused on power leveling as fast as humanly possible, mining and blacksmith is a great choice. Or even just mining, as you can find a blacksmith to make them up for you by giving him ore+crystals. I am basically in the same boat as Dagget, I will get there when I get there. I don't Mine a ton right now, but being able to craft my own nuggets, repair all my weapons, and repair crafting hammers is very useful from Blacksmith. Blacksmithing is not only useful for Armorer, but also pretty much ANY melee class as well. Field repairs save you TONS of time and money.
I would say leveling basically ANY craft with armorer as "good", especially one that can provide you with materials you can use. Of course, if you have miners and blacksmiths helping you out, then you can forget it. But not everyone has that luxury. But taking either Mining, or Blacksmithing would definitely HELP you out as an armorer. Either saving you costs/time on getting nuggets, or on getting ore to make into nuggets, and if you get both, you can do it all yourself. So do what you want. But you are going to need a lot of nuggets either way.
You make it sound like getting a job to 15 is some daunting task ... the SP you need is probably less than even 1 level at 40+ of Armorer for 1-15 in anything. It goes pretty fast. I mean, 1-6 takes 10 minutes, and 2 leves. 6-10, you only need probably 10k SP, which goes super fast, you are done before you know you started. Then the 10-15 is probably a total of around 40k SP (if that). It isn't that bad. I think I was making Iron at around 12-13, it isn't that difficult.
