No its not just you, its because your ping is probably 200-300, so it takes 2-3 seconds for you to tell the server "oi ***** i got ma weapon out", and for server to go "OK FINE!"

Its like a really good marriage.

Yeah most likely, if you look on like ffxi-status.com you can see their ping.

You should go on speedtest.net and select tokyo server and see what ping you get.

What sucks is not only is it a massive distance, the servers are doing horrible atm.

I think the animations make the delay seem even longer. They're quite good, and most games would short-cut the "transitional" animations... like the action between pulling your sword and actually swinging. I think a good example would be WoW where characters seem to get in their spell casting pose in an instant. It's more drawn out in FFXIV.

But there does seem to be a delay in... everything.

Pretty much all servers are on their knees at the moment, but Wutai seems to be the worst.

It seems to have gotten much worse today. I would assume this is because the influx of the SE crowd. Pretty annoying when you pay to use guild tools and you have an extra long delay between every input on the syth menu, thus wasting a good chunk of the buff time.

You do know 200-300 is miliseconds right? that's 1/3 of a second, not 3

that has to do with bandwidth not latency... But i'm not here to crap on your posts, just wanted to point out it's the game's fault not our internets

You couldnt crap on my posts, and it has nothing to do with bandwidth. The servers must receive all information before replying, then they must reply back so it also sucks in their end because of how unstable their network is atm. All these factors like the amount your uploading, then downloading with your ping rates, it'd be different for the japanese than for us.

Its not the internet. The UI design is such that it causes delay for every action. I run game nicely otherwise, no lag. So it can't be true that lag only happens when we use UI.

Lag through gameplay interface doesnt help at all. But I've logged in after maintenance and been one of the first like 20-30 people online and had absolute zero lag on interface no matter what I do.

Doesnt help when people log in and lag it all up, a lot of the UI elements are all server side and dont stay in your memory

All te servers are based in Japan so there will allways be UI lag for every one over seas!

Yeah Wutai was very bad this morning. Limsa Lominsa also has some wind weather effect that it exacerbating the issue in that area.

The servers aren't optimized at the moment, hense why it takes forever to do an action, open a menu, sell an item.. etc etc. Basically anything that has to do with talking to the servers. FFXI servers were all located in Japan and yet the delay in that game was 200-300 MAX, and when you hit something, or bought something it was instantly (practically). Right now we're pinging the servers at something along the lines of 1000-1500, and at really bad times its more than 2000. As time goes on servers will get optimized for the traffic and the game will regain FFXI-esk delay. It's just a matter of waiting.
