I tried hard to be good at what I did, * healer during 1st raid content and Tank during 2nd raid content. I ended up leading lots of raids , just cause I knew the pulls and because people considered that I was fair. I was not that hardcore but I could tank and maybe I didnt knew every aspect of the game or the boss we were going to fight but people trusted me and I trusted them , they were ok with me making decisions. My friend was a really good player and top guilds would recruit him and he would then pull me into them. I liked the end game alot and raiding, I was never top dps or anything but I felt I pulled my own weight around.
I dont consider myself hardcore, but sometimes I would play as much as a hardcore player, I would like to go on end game raids but I would not stress out if there was a bad pull or wipes. I considered my LS as my family and we might not have been the first or 2nd LS in the server to kill Kirin for example but we certainly did, and finished CoP and all that.
What I did and I think will still do , is that most of the time I refused to play with kids, and luckily my LS had a 18 and over policy. There were exceptions as the daughter of the LS leader was around , she usually didnt raid but we PL her a few times and helped with her collections of cute items. haha. Sorry to you guy young members, but I just preffer to play with adults. Dunno if that makes me lame, mean or w/e. After 1 time I had to listen to a 13 year old go nuts on vent that was it.
To me writing is a process of discovery and as I was writing this , I kept discovering what kind of player I was. I think I was a True player in training to become a hardcoreplayer limited by the time i had to play and also because in the end I always remembered that it was a game and it was supposed to be fun so when we lost a claim or when we got pwned we usually just laughted regrouped and tried again.
This is a funny video that reminded me of my LS, that was how some people were but in the end we all had fun and lived through the hard times.

Pvp servers cant help but cause you grief.. i guess this is why pvp is usually on a separate server?
Like someone said earlier, pvp has really lost its shine in these new games. When you used to die you used to lose items and other stuff, but now you just need to run and get your grave or pay some gold to have your health restored. Pvp just isnt the same. They need to integrate some pvp like the first years of UO.

A real baron and trader, plays simply for the joy of collecting items and making profits. Hates losing currency and are typically the richest and best geared of players. Plays the market like a flute and often whores out crafting in any possible.
MMORPG: Stated above, usually richest players and crafting masters. Masters of the auction house or other market center as well.
The Star
Loves to be popular and well known. Typically posts constantly on the forums and tries to achieve accomplishments they will receive fame for.
Hard Core Gamer
Small portion of the gamer community. Want to be the best at anything they can, crunching numbers and max-min-ing their characters. Are sometimes elitist and look down on "lessor" players. Respects power and dedicates oneself wholly to a cause. Will power through an RPG in half the gameplay time with just about everything in tow and completed.
MMORPG: The best players forming the best guilds playing the most amount of time with the best gear. They like being the best, put a lot of work into doing so, and sometimes look down on others who aren't on the "best" list.
Which are you? Have any "types" of your own that think should be on the list? Don't agree with some of these? Well post away!
Definitely a combination of these 3, lol. This is why I can't wait for ffxiv. Restart my linkshell, and be working at it from day1. Will hopefully allow me(us) to get ahead of the game. FFXIV relic-equivalent, yesprz.

I'm more of a "Social Gamer".
I play to meet people, talk with them, either via text in game, or by voice with vent or skype. Most of my gaming revolves around playing with friends or people I just meet. Doesn't really matter what I'm doing. And I tend to play games more than just a few hours a day, and pretty much every day.
I'm really a guild-person. I love being in an active and social group of nice, friendly, cool people. I've been in quite a few linkshells in FFXI over the 6 years I played, where I've met best friends with whom I've established long-lasting friendships that continue outside of games.
Exploring games with friends and doing end-game events with close friends is what makes MMORPG's fun to me. After-all, the community is the whole point of an MMORPG. I do like to read and post on forums, but I don't care at all about infamy in the slightest. I just like having really good friends.
When not playing a game with online capabilities, I just play your typical puzzle or RPG games.
But I guess if I had to choose from one of the above categories, I guess the closest one I can identify with is... "Generic Gamer"... lol.
I agree with Aurora. I don't truly fit into most of the types listed when it comes to MMORPGs. After all, the only reason why I love MMORPGs so much are the communities and in FFXI, I truly felt that the community bonds were strong. :)
I love meeting friends, chatting with them, helping them with quests, leveling with them, exploring with them, and just about everything else you can do in an MMO. I had a close friend that I met in Valkurm Dunes in FFXI and when we finally got high enough to get our first AF armor, it was such an accomplishment.
I guess I just like forming memories and sharing accomplishments with friends most of all. :D
When it comes to regular gaming though, I am more of a story-line oriented gamer. I am a sucker for a love story and if the game doesn't have an interesting love story, I get bored. Which explains why I got bored of FFXII and never finished it.... X3

I'm still picking up on all my older games and replaying em to pass the time(Since I'm in between jobs and not looking for another till after the holidays pass by. I would love some new games!). I'm always willing to trade some sleep for MMO time, and more recently, I've went headfirst into crafting/gathering and tried to keep my pockets padded as early as possible.

Generic Gamer\True Gamer...The Adventurer...The Story-liner
I like to think I'm a little bit of all three of these. I have no problem staying in game for long periods of time, including all night...unless I pass out from boredom during a FFXI party that we settled for even though it posed no challenge whatsoever ^^b (Thankfully my hubby kept waking me up!!)Oh shush! It only happened a couple times!
Anyways...
>_>
<_<
I love exploring, although I get lost easily at first(/follow FTW!)and I absolutely LOVE a good storyline.....although a 10-15 minute cutscene is up for debate, =P
While I don't really care about being popular, I am a very social person, and love a good, socially active guild/linkshell. Quiet is bad and bores me to death. Even LFG can be fun....lfg for 8+ hours isn't all that bad if your BS'in with your shellmates the whole time.
Anyhoo!
Seriously can't wait till I can play/party/BS/laugh/grow/experience/explore/celebrate with all of you!

I started playing games back in the days of Colecovision, then went ZX81,ZX Spectrum,Atari ST,Amiga then PC's (with a few consoles thrown in for good measure). My favourite games always have been RPG's and I can't seem to cure my RPG mentality when playing MMORPG's.....once I've maxed my char, got semi-great gear, done most instances etc the game can become a little uninteresting for me and unless there's a big "hook" after "beating the game" I find myself more likely to quit after half-heartedly trying other classes.
I played as a true hardcore gamer in my first couple of MMORPG's,playing for 16 hours a day most days and loving most of the time spent.Last few years I'm not so keen on playing as long because the games seem too generic/cookie-cutter and sadly it seem's like most modern day MMORPG's see WoW as being the ONLY possible model to base their games on :( I did go back to being a HC player in my last MMORPG though....playing around 12 hours a day for a few months because it got it's hooks into me and I found some awesome guys to play with.
I always try to be as good as I can be (if not THE BEST OF THE BEST)and need to be around other people who've taken the time to learn their class and their role in a group which is why I try to find a good social clan/guild/kinship/ls and then find the best players from those players to group with as much as possible.
I can be a bit of a merchant but tend to do my AH trawling in blocks.....go play first but then set some time aside to hunt for better eqpt and good deals on the AH.I always try to get the best deals I can for what I have to sell and want to buy.....I refuse to buy the hugely expensive items and try to get them for myself if at all possible,if I can't seem to get them I'll often settle for the next-best item instead.
I've hated PK for as long as I've played online games.Even MUD's had gankers and griefers but back then they were fewer and the bad ones were known by everyone and you could always call on help to fight them whenever you needed it.Nowadays too many people play PK purely to spoil others fun and I hate that.I love GOOD PvP though when it's with good groups who can win or lose with good grace......bad losers are annoying but not nearly as annoying as bad winners!!
So,basically I'm a little bit of every style except PK'er but mostly I try to be ME as much as I can (possibly the best parts of ME,even moreso than in real life).
P.S sorry for the essay,I may have got a little carried away :P

Typical gaming duration depends if you made the kids play hard that day or not. It's also dictated by how hard you played that day as well. I find myself logging on FFXI late at night when the kids are in bed, then logging off 15mins later because I'm too bloody tired to play!
