It's true, the article says nothing about a beta key, just a "campaign code." The "beta key" is a rumor that hungry fans have been spreading over how vague this newly released information is. I'll be checking the article when it comes out, and also checking the Famitsu that comes out three days after that.

According to eLeMeN - FF14, a Japanese FFXIV fansite, it's probably an in-game item code or something along those lines, like most FFXI "campaign codes."

If they want more feedback, I think they should do it for both platforms, but with limited keys. Don't want the servers being over-flooded, and I am thinking this is their ingenious way of selling as many copies of FFXIII as they can. XD

As soon as someone said "Campaign code" in their translation the general "thought" should have changed faster =P. If it was a beta key, I am almost positive the phrase "BETA" would be in there somewhere! =P

i figured it was when i heard about it, but the dictionary thing just confirmed it haha

every one seems to think it's a beta key though, but i' know nothing of betas but the basics so i have no idea :3

Well, there's currently a rumor that if you buy Final Fantasy XIII you will get a beta key for FFXIV. What platform it is for or at what date you can use the key is not specified or known at this time. Which means it could be for the PC or PS3 only and possibly next year instead of anytime 'soon'. The magazine that has this information and also where early scans has leaked from is Shoen Jump.

What's your thoughts on this, will it be a limited amount of FFXIII copies which will have the key? Only in Japan or also abroad? FFXIII will be released December 17th.

I checked a few Japanese fansites. eLeMeN - FF14 thinks that this is most likely a campaign code for an in-game item. Final Fantasy 14 Fan is unsure whether it's a beta key, a download code for the development version, a limited edition item, or something else, but they quote the FFXI Term Dictionary about "campaign code:" "a service where a selected character can receive a limited in-game item using a code included with other merchandise the player buys." They go on to say that, since Square Enix released in an interview that the beta test will be world wide, it's a little difficult to believe that they would release a Japan-only beta code. However, they said, if this were the case it must be something that Square Enix has though through thoroughly.

Well, I translated the message (I speak Japanese fairly well) and it says: "Quick announcement! Inside the first FF13 releases, they will come with a FF14 campaign code!"

Now, campaign code can be anything that is a bonus to your purchase. So this could be beta keys, it could be a discount coupon for purchase of the game, or it could be free game time for FF14. Knowing how campaign codes work (I'm living in Japan right now), it's usually related to free time. So I'm guessing if you get one of the initial releases of FF13 in Japan, you will get a code for free game time or something like that. It's just speculation, but I highly doubt it will be beta keys.

Glad this is just a rumor, because I sincerely doubt that this would be a beta key. Because this would mean that EVERY Tom, ****, and Harry would be able to play Final Fantasy XIV in the beta simply by purchasing, which I have sincere doubts they would do.

And yet, I can see Square-Enix doing this simply from business perspective. Take for example, me. Despite the hype over it, FFXIII is the first Final Fantasy game in the numerical series that I am COMPLETELY disinterested in. And yet, they may just get a sale out of me if they include a Final Fantasy XIV beta key. Hell, I don't even own a PS3, and I'd consider buying one if it were just for XIV's beta. Of course, I'm assuming that you'd have to get XIII on the PS3 so that you could play XIV's demo on the PS3. But, yeah, that process would force some people's hands into buying XIII when they never wanted it in the first place. Such as myself.

Still, as I mentioned, that would be way too easy for every individual to get into a closed beta. Most likely, in-game item or event.

not too overly thrilled with the idea that they might be releasing the game with a beta key. guess it just sort of goes against the idea of a beta. Maybe for when the beta opens, but hopefully they are a bit more selective for their closed beta.

Eh, if the Beta is going to be for PC only, why would the beta, or even an item of sorts, be in a PS3 title. That's just a little bit of confusion on the part of Square Enix.

maybe i will play FFXIII like 1/2 year after it's released

Hmm this seems a bit ambiguous but I'd buy FFXIII for PS3 if it comes with a beta key. I was going to wait until it arrived on the 360 but the incentive is too great.

i'm really really hoping this isn't a beta, and is something really small like an in-game item or somethign insignificant, just because the amount of people willing to buy ffxiii just to get this campaign code (including myself, if i owned a ps3) makes me think that if this code is a beta then it's just a cheap way for SE to guarantee fxiii sales. or at least that's how it's starting to look

besides, not everyone should be a tester, most of us (including myself, again) have no experience and would most likely just run around and play without really trying to help the development of the game

If that's a beta key, I think i'll play FF14 beta over FF13 though^_^

I feel this is what happened with Aion as they gave beta keys for reorders, the game launched with so many errors, yeah most were small, but still you don't expect so many after so many tests which they conducted. Most people reordered just to see if they liked the game...

Like I said before though I think Squeenix will have us apply for it. Campaign code doesn't sound like beta key to me. ^^

Square has a big announcement on the 13th this month about 13 for the US! Think will be hearing a release date.
