Considering that US/UK gets FFXIII until a few months I'd think it would be safe to assume that we won't get the beta until later. (That is, if we get the beta at all)
As much as I will want to play it I'm probably just as excited that we will get tons of more info on FFXIV as a whole when the beta releases.
Then again you can just import FFXIII if you want the beta too badly.

Wondering if I should actually buy it just for a beta key?
And unfortunately I probably won't have any internet for March until the middle of April...which i'm suspecting to be prime closed beta testing season.

The ad is in the bottom/
速報: Quick announcement
「ff13」初回封入特典で「ff14」のキャンペーンコードがついてくるぞ:
FF13 first *batch is enclosed with a privileged FF14 campaign code to come with it!
the only vague part is 回封 which can be translated to several different interpretations, I figured batch seemed appropriate in this case, since I am assuming that they mean first time sales(which is not mentioned) but it points to the obvious.
If I made a mistake apologies in advance! But should be good :P

Also on another note, its extremely hard to get a PS3 Lightning Edition at a non inflated price at the moment for pre-orders. They have been selling out in 5-30minute. (This includes amazon and several big Japanese electronic/game stores) Add that with people owning PS3 in Japan and you have tons of people with "first" copies. So if the closed beta was supposed to be small, it raises questions.
Anyways on a personal note, I hope the beta is the case, because getting a PS3 Lightning Edition at the non-inflated price was *incredibly* annoying, and getting a beta code will make me seem like less of a fool for getting a white and pink PS3.

Kind of mix and matching platforms for access to the beta.

Sounds like a code that will add some kind of little perk to the FFXIV gaming experience. Special emote, special quest, special anything...but not necessarily a beta key Oo.
Overall I think the fact that it will be a PC beta has been stated by the Devs, someone linked to it in the topic. It would be rather stupid to test it on a console first. We'll end up with another problem of a game that was made for one console and then ported to systems that could handle more. I believe that despite the fact that they say it will be PC only, I feel PS3 will probably get in on the fun as well. Lets face it, beta clients these days are hugantic. I think Aion's installer was 9 Gigs, and the client itself was like 14.
This whole "Beta test when you buy xyz" stuff bothers me. It's becomming a trend to get special stuff for buying other stuff. Betas are a bad thing to hand out, and I feel that the gaming industry is going in all sorts of odd angles with this. Hey if I buy this game from Target, I get a special TARGET BRANDED mountian to snowboard down! Or Gamestop provides an extra character! It's gotta stop, where you buy your game shouldn't effect your game in any way... That's a bit off topic but it's been eating at me and this "Beta Test included when..." has started to join the line.
If they want Beta testers, they should do it the hard way. Ask for applications, review specs, and Beta histories and let them in.
The last point is that if this is a beta key giveaway it would be better to just do this towards the end when the stress test is needed.

if the keys are released with the Japan release of FFXIII in December, this will mean tons of new info., data, stats and in-game pics and video will soon be hitting the web. I would still consider this good news.....

GOD is coming .........and she is pissed!

I highly doubt this, someone would have broken their NDA by now (they almost always do with closed beta)
Even if I don't get to play in the closed beta it will not be the end of the world, a ton of new information would satisfy me.

Why SE should do such a thing? its PS3 only and the beta will be done on PC only first.
we will see how we could jump in the beta. hopefully it launches soon cuz we are in a big information lag atm :D
