I was unsure if I wanted to post this information when it was brought to my attention earlier today, however, it's a slow FFXIV news day, so why not?

Attached Image: aaa.jpg Attached Image: bbb.jpg

Well, there's currently a rumor that if you buy Final Fantasy XIII you will get a beta key for FFXIV. What platform it is for or at what date you can use the key is not specified or known at this time. Which means it could be for the PC or PS3 only and possibly next year instead of anytime 'soon'. The magazine that has this information and also where early scans has leaked from is Shoen Jump.

What's your thoughts on this, will it be a limited amount of FFXIII copies which will have the key? Only in Japan or also abroad? FFXIII will be released December 17th.

Addendum by SteveManly:

I checked a few Japanese fansites. eLeMeN - FF14 thinks that this is most likely a campaign code for an in-game item. Final Fantasy 14 Fan is unsure whether it's a beta key, a download code for the development version, a limited edition item, or something else, but they quote the FFXI Term Dictionary about "campaign code:" "a service where a selected character can receive a limited in-game item using a code included with other merchandise the player buys." They go on to say that, since Square Enix released in an interview that the beta test will be world wide, it's a little difficult to believe that they would release a Japan-only beta code. However, they said, if this were the case it must be something that Square Enix has though through thoroughly.

Well, I'm going to buy both, regardless of any promotion, and I have a PS3 and PC, so, a Beta key is just icing on the cake. ^^v

I called it such a long time ago. Makes way too much sense for them to not do that.

Yeah, its good news for FF fans as we will all most likely get both XIII and XIV as well, and it would be a good marketing move for Squeenix to implement this.

I hope that the beta keys are worldwide and not just for the Japanese release too, it would suck so badly if that was the case.

I just pray its a Beta for PS3. I would not like to have to buy a new PC for this beta, and then have a out of date PC by the time it releases, cause I don't think my current PC will run the beta proper.

Ohh this is cool news! I plan on buying FF13 anyway, so if I get a beta key too that would be great! Hope it's for the US/EU and not just Japan. Here's to hoping! :th_070_goodjob:

Hmm, i think its probably going to be for japan and PC. I'm thinking the chance of US/EU having a beta is higher than PS3 getting beta though.

Either or, I would prefer it to be EU/US/JP and also be on PS3 and PC :D

That's exciting potential news, although not altogether unexpected. I'm sure it probably is true. When it comes to beta, though, I can be pretty confident in saying that it will be PC only. For first betas of a game, PC is the way to go for development, debugging, and communication more than any of the other systems. In fact, I think I read somewhere where the FFXIV team said something about beta starting out PC only.

EDIT: Here you go. http://www.joystiq.c...ill-be-pc-only/

Well I could see that happening... however, FF XIII only releases in Japan in december ... and around April next year for the US/Europe. Does that mean the Beta will only be for Japanese people.. or people who import FF XIII from Japan in December?

Also, if the beta key is included in FF XIII in both Japan & US/Europe versions, that means the beta for XIV will not be until mid 2010.

We'll have to wait and see

I'm thinking Japan and Ps3, actually. Something similar to this was done for FFXI on the ps2, and the ps2 version for Japan was not only first first version but also the most popular.

Why would the developers say it is PC only if they were gonna do it for PS3?

Nice. Always good to see your site referred to from other sites, I'm sure. Guess that's what happens when you obsessively look for news about FFXIV more so than anyone else on the internet. lol

Personally, I'm excited purely at the possibility of a formal announcement of a public beta. I don't think it's a huge jump to say that the Japanese release of XIII will likely have a key for a Japanese beta. The real question in my mind is whether they'll be blocking IP's outside of Japan.

If not, then one possibility is that they'll release codes with XIII for Japan and then allows other areas some other kind of opportunity to get in. I was under the impression that they were developing the versions side-by-side, so that would make the most sense if they want to get a timely start on testing the game in its entirety.

Ya, Im not getting my hopes up too too much. I fully expect that there might not be an initial beta for those outside of Japan.

I still have hope though.

One Thing.

I can give proof of this later one when it gets out, because a friend of mine is going to buy the Japanese Version. I don't know why but looks like it works on PAL PS3. But if the beta key is there we will know, even Steve will buy it just to check it out, no? XD

Anyway, She bought the FFVII:AC Complete from Japan and the blue-ray played on the PAL-PS3, she even could play the FFXIII Demo.

So I think the game doesn't have a Code Region! Would it be possible?

Cheers Mooga.

Mooga, all PS3 games (except 1 ) are indeed region free WORLDWIDE (not just PAL) including quite a lot of blu-ray movies too as long as you have a HD TV.

(US uses 480i whereas Europe uses 576i as standard, therefor the US PS3's aren't build to handle the extra 96 lines of imaging but with a HD TV both PS3's can run at 720p or 1080p so there is no problem)

Therefore, if you can read japanese, you can indeed play Final Fantasy XIII in december in the US and in Europe... and possibly the XIV demo if it is not IP blocked (although it will probably be in japanese too).
