Id like to see it make an appearance but with a revamped song system. Maybe instead of having songs with a radius of effect you could instead set songs to affect only certain classes. That way you can pick your 4(or w/e the max is) songs, pin classes to them(limit the number/type of classes per song to avoid people just picking everyone for every song) and then just cast your 4 songs on the party without worrying if one of the melee gets hit with a song you intended just for the mages. :th_091_-1:

I don't understand how people can say one problem with XI's Bard was them being almost mandatory in parties while another problem is that're 100% support. So what you're saying is, is if Bards could ALSO heal and DD they'd be LESS mandatory? lolwut?

And them being capable of meleeing totally goes against SE's so-far-seen structure. Every class has ONE weapon and then an extremely crappy ranged weapon for, presumably, pulling or when your main breaks and you need a last second save. Somehow, rapiers and daggers don't fit into that picture all too well. And we've yet to see how Disciples of Magic works. More likely than not, they have no secondary weapon, and instead they must make do with casting without a weapon/instrument.

The real discussion here is what will Bards use. Will their weapon just be called "Instrument" and cover a wide range (flutes, harps, mandolins)? It'd be pretty boring if it were just one.

so randomly, before square enix asked them to take the thread down, ZAM had a description of the secret FFXIV trailer Elmer (their translator) saw at Vana'fest. i'm not going to describe it here either, but at the end of the trailer, apparently one of the characters featured said 'let's give our bard something to sing about'.

anyways, just thought i'd let you guys know xD
LOL FFXIVCORE.

I would love to see BRD again but a tick revamped.

The principle of songs is great together with playing instruments.
But in FFXI, lets be serious, there arent many songs in high usage.

The songs, duration, effect and buffs should be designed in a way that allows more diversity.

I was a Bard in FFXI, and will be one in FFXIV if it returns. I would like to to see BRD being able to heal more, especially since FF14 won't have any subjobs. I also wouldn't mind BRD having some damaging spells as well, it sucks not being able to contribute to killing a mob!

I noticed this sentence too an got really excited!
There are two possibilities here: They are referring to a bard within their party or the bard that is singing in the bar/inn the party is siting in.
Of course I hope it's the first, I was a BRD in FFXI and I would love to see something like it in XIV, especially if it's more melee oriented.

It is indeed known that Bards sing songs that directly tell stories of epic battles carried out by adventurers so i really think that it was just a traveling Bard that sang stories of adventurers.

I'd love to see bard or some other similar support job in FFXIV, but only if it was more action oriented. Something similar to FFXI Corsairs, Bards from Vanguard and EQ2 or Aion's Chanter.

would especially like to have songs that differ per spell, not just for an instrument... rather than having every song sound the same as a wind instrument or a string, have every song have its own tune, which changes sound wise to the instrument, not changing the tune of each unique song itself

you mean the timbre?

like in an ensemble where player A plays theme A with instrument A, then player B plays theme A with instrument B?

would be sweeeet.

I'd play a bard if it was more like a corsair. Where you can do some damage and still have buffs (a la Enhance or Elemental Shamans from WoW, or Chanters in Aion).

I'm figuring this time around bards won't be used for pulling anymore. yes i think they will have there lullaby and all that but we basically moving parties so i doubt they will be used for that.

how they will change the bards i dunno, maybe just make a lot more moves useful then the few?

perhaps spells that can inter lap other classes spells or something that can keep him going back and forth casting on other mobs in the party on party scenarios.

been thinking giving moves to bards that don't wake up sleeping mobs would be cool. like dots, and certain moves that can take damage to mobs and still keeps it's sleep or lullaby on it?

me likes idea of it doing a little more then the few support spells, they will have to if not pulling 200bird chains in between each cast, it would be as dull as ffxi's warrior class lol.

I would love to play a bard again in ff14. I loved the challenge. In pugs where it was hard to get people to cooperate with positioning, I would challenge myself to work around them and still give them all the proper songs without overlapping songs they don't need. It was freakin awesome because I was awesome. I loved having to constantly make mental checks on when songs timed out so that I can refresh them as soon as they expire, and in the 2 seconds of break between refreshes, I also helped with heals and/or crowd control when we got extra adds. I have yet to play another class in any other mmo like a bard. It's really a shame that they got rid of a class that works so well, and that is so unique.

And remember bcnm40? I giggle at the memories. good times...
It's my fault that I held SE to the same standard as Blizzard. You fooled me good, SE. Good one.

Bards in Ragnarok Online are definitely done El Kabong style, very funny to take a mandolin to a Poring and watch it explode. We do it for the lulz...

RO did bard right. They allowed them to switch between bow and instrument, for ranged damage. Their damage dealing potential is high, but they're mostly used for their buffs. There are some times that you can do both, with a skill called Musical Strike which does decent damage. One skill, Arrow Vulcan, that was fun. Very high damage potential and can be spammed if done properly.

Bards are totally soloable, but best used in a group to increase attack speed, decrease casting time and cooldown time, and give agility buffs. They also have a skill that increases max HP by a huge amount, and restores a small bit of health over time :th_086_64color: .

The songs themselves are awesome. They don't change with the weapon, but each skill has its own tune. One of them is a metal type tune, the others are all different and have different instruments. Oh, and if you bring a Bard and a Dancer together, all hell breaks loose. You can combine their skills to make even bigger skills with great effects (increase drops, increase exp, shield players inside by a barrier where no skills can be used, and more).

Square Enix could take a page from the developers at Gravity and create Bards who are very useful in a party. They were only required in parties that went deep into the toughest dungeons. They were nice to have in regular parties, but that was just gravy. :th_091_-3:

EQ,EQII,EQOA all did the bard right, and loooong before RO. My main was always a bard minstrel. Duel epic blades with a nice non-resisted damage proc, ability to swap to misc. bows at will, and the instriments. Damage was good, but primarily used for the buffs, Bards were very very soloable. Minstrels had more of a drfencive focuse while gypsies had more of of a damage focus. I was hoping from day one of my knowledge of FFXIV that bard would be released on day 1.

There is a list that is rumored to be the rest of the classes that was "supposively" data mined during alpha. In game guilds backed up the list. Bard was on it.

But still, it is unreliable information and is not to be fully trusted.

It's not hard to find the list, but I will not be providing it.
