The controls are pretty much almost the same as FF11, which I totally loved. I loved tilting my chair back, rest the keyboard on my lap (or belly sometimes) and play in the most conformable position possible for hours.

Everything was thanks to the numeric keypad movement controller and the arrow keys for camera movement. Not to mention quick menu access through the other numeric keypad buttons. Now this is the part that saddens me about FF14, just this.

I went to the menu options and I noticed that you can asign many keys to being configured the way you want it, even the camera controls are J K L M (I think) but I wanted to switch them to the arrow keys... no luck. I can set the camera movement to almost any button EXCEPT the arrow keys... this makes me /sadpanda :(

I hope that SE reads this post and allows the keyboard configurations to allow the camera movement through the arrow keys... This will free my left arm to do complete control on the hot short cuts or type text and my right hand to complete control the character anyway I want. Using the mouse on FF14 has been totally sucky, from every angle.

1st why use the mouse when you can just hit "0" on the numeric key pad and auto select any target on the screen? no need to use the mouse. Besides using the mouse to then use the numeric key pad and the other keys on the left side just makes everything really confusing and not to mention delayed reaction when it comes to chatting and moving quickly. People need both hands to type, by default using the mouse makes you drop the mouse and move your right hand (or left) to the keyboard, leaving you paralyzed on complete movement control.

Some games are meant to be played with a mouse, I personally dont see that with FF14. Well either case, Square-Enix please allow me to allocate the camera movement to the arrow keys and I will be a happy fanboy :)

I think they should engineer it for all controls. I still tend to play with keyboard mouse for fighting. However im finding more often than not, im switching to my PS3 Controller for alot of things, like long runs, exploring, crafting/gathering infact most things im now using the controller for oddly enough, ive still got my keyboard next to me so i can type though, and still use mouse and keyboard for most of the fights (though for easy grinding that pesky controller keeps callin me!). I just sit back tilted in my chair talking **** on ventrilo/ts. This game needs built in voice comms though so i can abandon the keyboard for most things.

Slap in the macro's before hand, sit in a comfy chair (my PC is in my room so i can crash onto my bed) and plus play in an extremely comfortable position for once. Im used to playing alot of FPS games for years so getting away from the monitor in my face seems nice these days. :th_070_goodjob: I like a bit of change.

There's a list of reserved keys in the last tab, of which the arrow keys are included.

I considered using the numpad for camera controls and WASD for movement, but ended up using an Xbox controller instead. I'm pretty happy with that decision so far.
