I am encountering the same problem, running Win7 Home Premium, Intel Quad Core Q8300 @ 2.50 GHZ, 8 GB RAM and an onboard intel graphics. Troubleshoot says its a compatibility error, but running it as admin and/or with all the different compatibility options it still closes upon opening. I've updated DirectX, all my drivers are up to date. I can't for the life of me figure out why it wont even run.

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry to report that none of us have been able to diagnose just what is the issue causing this. Numerous people, including close friends have gotten this error. Doesn't seem to stem from any one issue, and many speculate it's due to some on board GPU's not being marked properly in the vendor files that the benchmark/client quickly reads when trying to load.

This is all just pure speculation, but at this time we can't offer much. I've been knocking heads with this issue for people since alpha.

I too have this problem. It works on my other systems though. The only big difference is my GPU. The one it doesnt work on is my laptop that even tho it has a dedicated card, it only uses it when it needs to, otherwise it uses its integrated card. Because of this unique GPU configuration I'm assuming that is whats causing the problem. This backs up the theory of the GPU being the problem. This should be a problem that is easily fixed and seems to be running rampant so maybe they will actually fix it.

I'm a total computer noob, so I don't really know what a CPU/GPU is, but does this help?

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Media Center Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

AMD Athlon Processor
3500+
2.20 GHz, 1.43 GB of RAM

CPU and GPU are the processor and the Graphics card. You've got your CPU listed there, any chance on the GPU? Possibly something from ATI or nVidia ?

Lets keep this on top in regards to the error, not about PC upgrades :)

ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series.
I know I'm supposed to update it or something but that catalyst program confuses the heck out of me ^^;

I got the installer and everything installed fine, but like so many others, I get the DoS window open up and the FFXIVBoot.exe error. I am guessing it could be down to how old my machine now is, but I have seen lesser specs report it to be working, so I really have no clue.
Also, I haven't seen any minimum specs for this game as I do not always get a whole lot of chance to sit down and look, so I have no idea if my machine is even capable. I am guessing I will receive several comments here to verify though lol.

Windows XP Service Pack 3
AMD Athlon FX-57
2x nVidia 7800 GTX

If anything else is required, let me know.

Are you able to test it out using the newest Catalyst drivers? There was something in there about XIV's Crossfire setup, not sure if they included anything else in the update.

10.8 won't work? Here's some links if you care to try manually. I have very little ATI experience so I'm not sure if there are GPU restrictions.

my cad has been put into their legacy area, so no new drivers will work for it
