Final Fantasy has always had a special place for me when it comes to games. I first started playing video games as a little kid back during the NES and Sega Genesis days when Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog were all the rage.
The first time I ever even
saw an RPG was seeing a friend play Final Fantasy VII on his Playstation and at the time it totally blew my mind. Before then, I'd never seen "game" quite like it before.
Games to me back then were a very superficial experience, it was something that I turned on for an hour or two out of boredom, beat a few levels and move on.
Final Fantasy changed all that; it was the first time a game came across as, well,
art to me. The story-line was engaging and deep, the characters were three-dimensional: I saw them shape, grow and evolve in front of my very eyes by story's end. After Aerith's death cut-scene, I was like "Whoa!" totally speechless.
I think a big reason Final Fantasy XI was such a huge hit among fans of the series was the fact that Square managed to bring the atmosphere of the single player RPG games into the online world. Being able to have that same type of intense experience with your friends gave FFXI the edge over your average MMO world.
So here we are, twelve years later after my first Final Fantasy experience and I'm still a huge fan. Final Fantasy XI was a dream come true for me, and while I no longer play the game, I am a strong supporter of what Square did with the game and what it meant to me.
With Final Fantasy XIII and XIV on the horizon the anticipation is almost too much! I am looking forward to their release and I know they will live up to my expectations. Winning the contest would be icing on the cake.
Thanks for reading!
