You turn past the last section and notice a two page picture of a barren, gray landscape, framed by dark mountains in the distance. In the center closest to the viewers eye, you can see there is a group of six people, all looking very dirty, very ragged, and very tired at the top of a cliff overlooking the dull scene.

--------Lore----------
Once, there were many more of us than there are now. I wish I could say I remember those days, but I was too young to recall the days when my people were numbered more than only five.
Five summoners, five of those who used the white aura, remained in this half of the world.
The rest of us were dead.
There were once three kinds of summoners in our land...Black, White, and Gray. The Gray summoners used their powers to do what they believed what was right, even if it was wrong. Some were good, and some were not.
The Black Summoners summoned only aeons who wanted to destroy mankind, and bring chaos to the world. They did so because they believed that the aeons were the true gods of the world, come to bring an end to our people's suffering.
But the White Summoners, my people, my kind, were those who used their aeons only for the purpose of protecting others from the fiends which roam our world. And we were looked up at, as guardians and heroes of our land.
It was years after a war against the Black Summoners, that the people of our lands began to see that slowly, surely, we were running out of energy to power our cities, our homes, and our way of life. If nothing was found soon....things would go far out of hand.
One of these people who sought another source of power was Nicholas Hodge.
The son of the brilliant military mind of General Jon Hodge, who had helped defeat Mortimos and his Black Summoners, Nicholas had decided that his life was not meant for war and battles, but rather to save the land so that they could fight another day.
But despite everything he tried, nothing seemed to work. Nicholas became restless, and soon, he threw himself out of his window in his office...ten stories up. While his body was never found in the rubble and ruin which was becoming our cities, the General knew his only son had died.
But still, life went on...Until one day...
Xicholmnas appeared, out of the gray and fog, like a ghost. He planted the seed of hope in our hearts...for he had an idea that would revolutionize the system of energy we had. He presented us with crystals, stones he called Magicite, which released a powerful mystical energy that we could use and make our cities work again.
Mining and construction went down immediately. Xicholmnas was made President of our land for his brilliant work, voted in a landslide against all others. Beloved and worshiped as the savior of our world, he seemed a perfect man in our eyes.
It was a year later that the murder happened...an entire village...had been completely decimated, obviously by someone who could summon a powerful beast. Every summoner was questioned, and in the end, authorities found that the leader of the White Summoners herself had plotted to destroy the source of energy which Xicholmnas had created. It was true, she had spoken outwardly against the Magicite, saying it was dangerous, and had a power which shouldn't have been meddled with.
And so the sparks had now become an engulfing flame. No longer did people want White Summoners around their villages and cities, not even to protect them. Nobody trusted them anymore, and since so few creatures came near the cities anymore, there was no longer a need for them or their magic.
Xicholmnas ordered the White Summoners to give up their practices, and forbade Summoners to call forth their aeons again. But instead, my people retaliated. The remaining Black Summoners were enraged, and attack villages. The population of Gray Summoners became larger and larger, as those from both sides began caring less and less about their purpose, and more about themselves....and the people began to hate Summoners altogether.
The flames became an ocean of roaring heat when one of the major cities was brought burning to the ground. Included in the many casualties was Jon Hodge himself, and so his brother Louis took his place as General of the Armies, now enlightened with a pure hatred of anything magical.
Xicholmnas did nothing when the mobs began to form, going after Summoners in their homes. The mobs became a wave of hateful people, wanting only blood for their own blood which they had spilt. Every Summoner was killed upon sight, without mercy; man, woman, and child. It didn't matter which race. It didn't matter which kind of summoner they were. They were doomed.
Years of slaughter proved mankind had fallen from grace. Now their punishment was seen in their once fertile lands. The Magicite which had given their cities power and kept their ways of life going had been pouring a dangerous Mist out into the lands, turning flora and fauna into naught but ash and fiend. The entire world as we knew it had changed. It has been years since our people have seen the sun...
But Xicholmnas silenced anybody who dared to say he had been wrong. The Night Police formed suddenly and swiftly, and those who spoke against the newly formed Empire were eliminated. It was then that the people of our world began to realize that we had been tricked...and our true enemy was the one whom we had called our savior.
Some tried to escape, going after the lands rumored to be across the seas on makeshift rafts and boats. But they vanished, into the Mist which covered the seas on every side, covered our world with mystery and danger...never to return. It was said that there was a land, a land of milk and honey, on the other side of the world...but only those who could withstand the might of the Mist, this mighty power unleashed in our world, could dare to ever cross it. Nobody has heard from any who have ventured out there...Some say Xicholmnas has a secret port out on one of the islands that used to be off shore, waiting for deserters to fall into his trap. Other say that the Mist is simply too powerful. More believe that the world beyond our own is simply a myth.
.....But I know that it isn't. I know, because I met two boys from that other world, from the other side of our seas. Their journey here was nothing more than a twist of fate, an accident...but what they accomplished with our home, what they did to revive our old way of life, is what I believe the true marking of heroism really is.
So this is my story...the story of one of the last White Summoners in Corrian.
====Characters====
Matthias Hawke-21- Republic of Vactikan
Matthias is very self centered. He doesn't care much for others, and likes to be alone. He's worked on the same cargo vessel for years, only returning home once in a while when he's got a strange medicine for someone he cares dearly for. Whom this person is, he refuses to say, claiming he cares for nobody but himself. Matthias doesn't open up to anybody, and when he does, he is spiteful and cold about it. He doesn't believe in friendship or love, and thinks that fate is simply a fairytale version of coincidence.
Jouez Asper- 24- Republic of Vactikan
Jouez is a playful, happy young man, whose main motto is to think things slowly, and enjoy life as best you can. His optimistic outlook completely contrasts Matthias's, whom he is shipwrecked alongside after an incident on their cargo ship. He gets very jumpy when you ask him about his past, but is all and all very friendly. Sometimes he can be a little slow and slightly ditzy, but all in all, he means well.
Author's Note: Jouez is named after the french word "Jouer" which literally means "To play". He's also one of the few black guys who is one of the main charatcers in a Final Fantasy game. I love his dreadlocks.
Andeline Larzon-19-Empire of Corrian
One of the daughters of two White Summoners, Andeline was saved by an old man who lived next door to her, who couldn't bear to see a child die. Since, she's been living out in the ruins of Rorstach Jungle, where a White Summoner's village once stood. She is very fond of Jon Hodge, who is like the father she never remembered....despite him almost never being around. A sweet, kind, loving young lady who finds the two men from the other side of the world fascinating, she is determined to defeat the evil which wrongs her world...but does she have the courage inside herself to go through with it...and can she find the power to summon the most powerful of Aeons to her aid?
Author's Note: For some reason Andeline reminds me way too much of Yuna. She's kind of named after the flower Dandelion.
Hodge--69--Empire of Corrian
A rough, gruff old man who knows much of battle, and seems very influential to others. He never says what his first name is. Hodge is one of those old wise men who likes to play around with young kids minds....mostly Matthias's. Matthias often remarks that he's constantly "getting into my head" which can only mean the things Hodge says to him...could very well be true.
Hodge is very kind once you get to know him, and treats Konstance and Andeline like his own children. He is very touchy on the subject of killing Xicholmnas, but never mentioned why. He does realize that for the world to be as it should however, that the tyrant has to die, and he will do anything that he can to make sure it happens.
Author's Note: Hodge is named after one of my old music teachers, who is a brilliant man. Hodge is the old war soldier type, kind of like Auron...but seriously old...like a WWII Vet.
Zoay- 13- The Empire of Corrian
Zoay is rather enigmatic for someone so young. She hardly speaks at all, and when she does, it's single word sentences in a very thick cockney accent. It seems that she has a split personality, and will sometimes go mad when she's predicting the future. Many people have sought to harm or use Zoay because of her abilities, but it is Matthias and Jouez who save her from the clutches of the Empire. She tends to be rather morbid from time to time, and hurts herself whenever she thinks she's done wrong.
Author's Note: Originally Zoay's name was spelled "Zoe", but it looked too...'normal'.
Fussen Ives-31- Empire of Corrian
The robustly brave leader of the Thousand Bandits of Ives, Fussen claims to be a woman without fear. She is commander of a league of terrifying pirates who roam the area, fighting as many Night Policemen as they can find, and defeating members of the XA: Xicholmnas's Army.
Despite this, Fussen has a past she rather not talk about, and hides her weaknesses in a facade of tomboyish attitude. She was once a member of Jon Hodge's 10th Infantry, who defeated the Black Summoners ten years ago, but won't say a word about it.
Author's Note: Fussen is named after a German City. Her last name comes from the word "Ivory" which hints at the color of her iris: they're bright white behind her aviator goggles.
Konstance Hodge--40-Empire of Corrian
The leader of the Corrian resistance, Konstance is the son of General Louis Hodge. He couldn't bear that his father was working for the man destroying his homeland, and not even realizing how wrong everything he was doing was. So, Konstance faked his own death, gathering followers and hiding the the Valley of Seven Hills, where they were safe from the XA.
Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, Konstance always has hope that one day justice and good will prevail against the wrongs that have happened against the people of their world...and he's willing to do anything to make it come true.
Author's Note: Konstance is named after the word "Constant".
Rain--n/a--Empire of Corrian
A cold, heartless female with a lust for blood and an even great love for the man she serves without hesitation: Xicholmnas himself. As his right hand, Rain does all of the dirty work that no other could possibly complete, and she usually does it with a bang. Rain loves pyrotechnics with all of her heart, and enjoys setting everything on fire. She has a slight conscious about killing summoners though, since her mother was a Gray Summoner herself. However, she will do anything Xicholmnas wants, simply because she's under the impression that he loves her.
Author's Note: I find it ironic that someone who likes fire would be named Rain....
Xichlomnas--Empire of Corrian
The leader of the world as we know it. Xicholmnas is cold, cruel, devious, traitorous, and will do whatever it takes to keep his steel grip on his world, however broken and dying it may be. When someone mentions the damage the Mist has done, he goes into a terrible frenzy, and orders execution at once, often doing it himself with the scythe in his hands that he calls his scepter. He has no feelings for anybody, and will manipulate anybody he feels can benefit him. Xicholmnas does seem to have a peculiar interest in Andeline though, and wants her captured at any costs. His original whereabouts and origin are an enigma beyond enigmas.
Author's Note: Xicholmnas is an anagram, with two letters added. Can you figure out what it is?
Puk--Empire of Corrian
A devious impling like creature who can transform his body at will into anything he desires. He serves Xicholmnas only because he's terrified of that scythe. He's just as manipulative as any other member of the Emperor's men, and has a thing for eating vitcim's fingers. He mostly plays as Xicholmnas's messenger.
Author's Note: I honestly do hate Puks...any kind of puk: Hatchlings, whatever. They're rather annoying and hard to kill. I find this character to be the groveling, annoying type, so I named him Puk, ha ha... I'll be drawing him so that he looks like a Puk as well.
===========================
This is pretty self explanatory. The story is mostly about the conflict that Matthias is presented with about a quarter of the way into the game. You learn a lot of the backstories and things that the characters have right after the ending...which is rather tragic. I was inspired whilst thinking about how it is that people chose something they know is wrong, and yet do it anyway....which is mostly what the story is about.
Some of my best written lines are in this "final fantasy", many of which belong to Hodge and Jouez.
I imagine this world to be a lot like that of Planet from VII, but very, very broken. The whole place is pretty much composed of grays and blacks until you get up to the northern area where....well, I can't tell you that.
Matthias and Jouez both have darker skin tones because their bodies have had much more sunlight, unlike the residents of Corrian, who are mostly very pale and dirty.
