A New Beginning "Saving a Chocobo."

Pretty long one since I have not been able to post in the last three days. :th_096_K: you might end up like this = :th_045_:

Part one A New Beginning "A Baby is left behind."

Part Two a New Beginning "A Strange Lallafel."

Part three A New Beginning "Time Fly's."

Time has continue to flow, a never ending wave that if not rode correctly can slam you into the rocks on the shore. Leaving you a broken piece of meat. Another three years have passed and Marious is now fourteen to fifth-teen years old. A young man with wishes of adventure, there is so much out there that he has not seen. His father has promised him that he can take a trip with Aunt Kettle in the summer and he can not wait. His best friends a diminutive Lala named Yeck and a rather chubby Lala named Ari are exploring the woods today. They are pretending to be explorers and looking for a Treasure of untold value.

Yeck turns to a winded Ari "Come on already! With you along will never find anything. Your so slow, if we wait for you will be a hundred years old by the time we find anything." Ari is huffing and puffing going up the small hill sounding like the town smith bellows. Marious had offered to carry him on his shoulder as he is 3 times the height of either Lala. But Ari will not have it, "Coming! You know my family is big boned. Can't help it, and I sure like to eat food. Talking about food do you have any in your pack Marious."

"Sorry Ari nothing in my pack, but I am sure you got some hidden away in yours." He turns and both he and Yeck smile, of course he has something in his pack. Ari would not come out here with out some kind of food. Ari finally catches up to his two friends. "I don't even know why I come with you two. Could of stayed by town like all the others and played or messed with Sair and his friends." That was certainly true, but then again you can only do it so much. "You know it gets boring after a while. And then they will just tell their mothers and we wont hear the end of it from our parents." Aaron and Kira had certainly talked Marious ears off on that subject.

"So where to Mari? We explored most of this place I am sure there is not much more to look at." Yes they had been playing here for years and he was sure they had explored every nook and cranny and had discovered everything there was to discover. "Well I guess we can go over to the overlook." Both Ari and Yeck nodded, "That should work, we can see for miles down in the plain from that place. We can always climb one of the tree's and get a better look." The three had been doing a lot of climbing with Marious being as big as he was getting up on the the higher branches was cake. Marious had to be a bit more careful as he was heavier than the two Lala's.

The three boys walked on, the overlook was about twenty minutes away, at the overlook there was a small canyon that was near by with a small pool at the end. They could see it from the edge as they would be going close to it on their way to the overlook. This was a favorite place for them to go, it was nice to look at the plains and imagine wars that had been fought there. There where stories of great battles that had happen there 300 years earlier. The stories went that two great armies had met in the valley and that one was on the side of light and the other of darkness. The Army of Light had won that fight and had brought Peace to the land.

"Alright you two lets get up on that tree there. Just be careful or Mama will skin me alive for getting you two up there." He had gotten in trouble with Kira on a few occasions when one of the town hunters had seen him give Yek and Ari a push up into the tree's. She had been waiting on the door step and when the three friends had seen her with her hands on her hips they knew they were in trouble. "I don't know how you do it Mari your mom is one of the meanest people in town." That could be true she was known for her temper. But they did not know her like Marious did. "Come on now, she is always nice to you two." That was true enough she loved Marious's friends for some reason.

Yeck climbed the tree like if he was part Opo-Opo. While there was no Opo-Opo around this part's Aunt Kettle had told the three boys stories of her travels and how she had seen these little hairy animals called Opo-Opo's. She said they had been great climbers jumping from one tree to another like nothing. She said this was because they where safe from some of the predators down on the ground. Ari in the other hand always had trouble climbing, it was good that Marious was around or he end up staying in the lowest branch and miss everything. On the way up Marious helped his little big friend get up higher as he went. "Thanks Marious, these short stubby arms always make it a pain to climb." He smiled at his friend. "We can't all be part Opo-Opo like Yeck up there." Yeck looked down. "I heard that. You know if your gonna talk about me at least do it so I can't hear you." Both boys finally reached a spot where all three could see out into the plains.

Far to the right a small forest could be seen, there was some mountains further on and to the left more forest with a road that cut through it. They had seen many wagons being pulled by some great looking Chocobo's and some other beast of burden. They where large and unlike the Chocobo traveled very slow, but as large as they where they could pull a lot of heavy carriages. The carriage they had seen had been very long almost 6 times the size of a regular carriage. The thing moved slowly but was able to bring lots of trade goods into town. These traders would come by once a year. Aunt Kettle had come in one of the large carriages three times.

Today no such great sights awaited the boys, but something a bit more dangerous was out there. A howling was heard coming from the forest as far as they where the boys knew they where safe. An answering howl came from the other side of the forest to the left of the road. All three pairs of eyes looked from one howl to the answering howl. "What was that?" Both Yeck and Marious could see that Ari was scared. "I don't know, there has not been any wolves around here for years or so my Papa told me." To try to reasure Ari, Marious agreed with his friend. "Mama said the same thing. There have not been any wolves around here. We should probably report it when we get back. If there are some out there it wont be safe for the town people. Much less those that are coming in to trade." Marious was thinking of his Aunt Kettle it would not be safe for her if there where wolves out there.

"Look at that!" Yeck pointed to the right where a Wild Chocobo was running out of the forest soon after a wolf came out of the forest snapping at the birds big legs. The wolf was trying to take it down. It was continuing to run to the other side of the forest but it turned instead. "No, no not this way. Its a dead end!" Ari yelled, but they could see why the bird had turned, on the other side another wolf had appeared.

These two predators knew what they where doing, they would trap the young chocobo in the canyon, tire it out and kill it. "It's dead, it will not be able to climb the canyon walls." Marious would not let that happen he started climbing down. "Marious where are you going?" Marious looked up at his friend, "Some one has to help it." Yeck looked at his friend shocked. "Are you crazy?! Those things will tear you apart, and eat both you and the bird." Marious continued to go down. "Don't do it Marious, what am I suppose to tell your parents?!" But Marious was not listening he had reached the last branch and before he even touched the ground was already at a full run.

What was he thinking? He had no idea just that he should help this poor animal out. He would come up with something, the chocobo would only have a few minutes and when it reached the end it would die. As he ran he saw a large branch by a nearby tree it had fallen and it would work as a club. He could at least hold them off and if he was lucky he would be able to scare them away. He had reached the end where it curved around and he needed to get down there fast, but how? It would not be much of a rescue if he fell and broke his legs or landed on his head and died.

Down in the canyon and in front of him he could see the Chocobo coming down the canyon. Only seconds where left both wolves where on either side making sure that there was no where for the large bird to go and try to escape. They would eat good if they where able to take it down. There would be no good eating tonight if Marious had any say in it. The Chocobo reached the end of the canyon and turned to face his opponents it would put up a fight but Marious could see that it was tired and it would not last long.

The wolves slowed and started to walk back and forth ready to take down the poor bird. One launched and the Chocobo beak came down hitting the wolf on the head. The wolf jumped back with a yelp. It was not gonna make it easy for them, each wolf started to go at it and backing up as they could see what it could do with its beak. If the Chocobo would of been with a few of its kind they would not even of bothered, but this one was young and tired, they could tire it out, then go in for the kill.

Marious still looking for a way down, to try and give the poor chocobo a reprieve threw the branch into the water, he would have to jump in after it and hope he survived the ordeal. The branch sailed through the air and landed in the water with a splash. The wolves turned to look and stared to make sure it was not something they needed to worry about. Since nothing came out of the water they turned back to their prey. Marious worked his way to the other side where it would be easier to jump into the water. He arrived to a spot where he thought would be the best to jump from.

Bellow the wolves where still going at the bird trying to take it down. The bird would either jump and try to scratch with its large claws or come down with its beak, but it was reacting slower, it would be over soon. Marious jumped and prayed, this was the only way. He landed in the water and the shock of hitting the water and the cold of the water made him black out momentarily. He came too mere seconds after, it was the scariest thing that had happen to him.

The splash yet again had distracted the two wolves and they looked to make sure nothing came out. They saw nothing so they again turned to their pray. They could see that the bird was almost done. There was a noise from the water and some large wet thing came out of it, with a short and a long arm.

Marious was covered with mud but was ready to help the chocobo, he grabbed the large branch and started to move forward. One wolf turned to him and started to run towards him, the wolf launched itself at the new prey. Marious swung his club and the wolf went flying and yelped as it hit the side of the canyon. The second wolf left the Chocobo and started to approach this new enemy. Marious swung his club up and down hitting the ground letting dirt fly on either side. He yelled at the wolf. "Come on!" The wolf goaded launched itself and again Marious swung his club and send yet another wolf flying.

The wolf landed not far from its partner and yelped as well. It got up looked at bird and large thing that had come out of the water turned and started to run as best it could. His pack mate followed behind with its tail between its legs. Both wolves knew when they where beat and there was easier prey to hunt than these two.

The chocobo looked at Marious with terror still in its eyes. It had not moved from the spot it was in, it was wary of this new thing, it might mean it hard and it had defeated the wolves. It might just want to eat the chocobo itself and there was no way it was going to outrun it in its state. Marious went over to the water and started to wash the mud from his face, arms, and clothes. His mom was going to kill him, it was not easy coming across clothes for him. The chocobo slowly made its way to the water keeping a close eye on the weird thing. It was so tired it laid down and drank a bit from the water. It felt something on it, but it was to tired to fight, if he was to die so be it. But death did not come, instead the thing that had scared the wolves away was stroking its feathers. And it felt good, it felt so good to have the large thing stroke its feather's in the way it was doing it.

From above Marious heard Yeck. "Marious that was great! You where so heroic!" Ari still a little scared and excited agreed. "That was so scary but it was like you where this great warrior fighting in the wars of legend." Marious did feel heroic, he had risked his life to save the chocobo and he knew that if he had to do it over again he would do the same thing. He continued to stroke the Chocobo and a small sounds came from the bird, it was the same sound he had heard from the domesticated Chocobo's.
